How big does this azalea get? My friend is planting them as foundation plants in the front of her house. I can't get an accurate answer about their growth although I think they may get about 4 feet tall. It comes from the Dr. George Tabor, which can get large.

mine are not pruned, about 4'-4.5' tall and have been in the garden a long time. they have an open habit but that could be because i am growing them in bright shade.

Mrs GG is literally the same as George Tabor, except of course she's white. They'll get four/five feet tall and an open habit is typical. If you're going to use them for the front foundation, I'd suggest a lower tiered underplating as well to avoid the leggy look.

Hello Steve, I am Martha from Minneapolis, MN, USA. My maternal grandmothers maiden name was Ivery. If the following information on Dorking Nurseries is already known to you, I apologize in advance. If you have additional information on the J. Ivery & son's I would be interested. Thomas Ivery was born in Dorking , Sept 1765. His father(unknown 1st name) had a nursery in Dorking as early as 1770. Thomas(1765) inherited the "Ivery Nursery" from his father. The fisrt reference I have found on the Ivery Nursery in Dorking is a painting. At the "Marylebone Cricket Club" the painting: Dorking by James Canter around 1770-80, showing a cricket match at The Cotmandene Common in Dorking. The Ivery Nursery & House are shown above the Pipp Brook Mill Pond along The London Rd. Thomas' son James Ivery (born 1791) became, Ivery & Son's Nursery of Dorking & Reigate. James'(1791) 2 sons both became nurserymen. James Ivery(1823) carried on J. Ivery & sons in Dorking(his son Henry James Ivery born 1857 continued the business and in 1881 employed 30 men. Henry was listed as a florist when his daughter Constance married in 1913. That is 4 generations of Ivery's in the business. William Ivery(1825) was the owner of Hanover Nursery in Peckham. Until a tree in the vicinity develops, it's mostly afternoon sun. Not ideal conditions, I know. However, spring & summer blooming (white) evergreen shrubs for this area are needed. Whether for this particular area or not, white blooming azaleas will be a main feature of the property. Much of the area receives little sunlight (due to large oak trees).

Depending on the variety and many factors, it may take several years (5++ maybe). Try to contact the prev owner to see if they can help. Also, look around the area where those azaleas are planted to see if you find old identification tags; you might get lucky looking under the mulch but do not disturb the tiny roots as they grow in the top 4" of the soil. Another idea would be to visit as many plant nurseries in Spring as you can - when the azaleas have arrived- to see if you find them for sale (maybe also take photos too to see if an employee can recognize your azaleas).

i would opt for something other than southern indicas as foundation plants unless there is a good bit of height from the ground to windows. 'george l. taber' can get very tall and wide in my area and i personally don't like the sheared look for them. 'mrs. g.g. gerbing' won't likely grow as tall but might get out of range for most foundations, looking too large for a typical one-level home.
some of the kurume azaleas and their hybrids have a tighter growth habit and the small, glossy foliage is more attractive when they are not in flower.

My friend asked for my advice about her foundation plantings, and I told her that Mrs. G.G. Gerbing was a larger azalea which might be too much for the front of her small house; however, her son-in-law insisted on putting five on either side of her front steps. Her house is a one-level craftsman. Boy, is she going to have some major azalea growth. Son-in-law also snuggled in two camellias and two hollies along with the azaleas- a good example of "it looks good when the plants are small, but..." So much for my advice.

According to the tag on the 6 Mrs. G. G. Gerbing Azaleas I purchased from my local nursery, they can reach a height anywhere from no less than 3' with a maximum of 8' tall, they may spread out anywhere from 4' to 6' in width.

So they would make a nice "privacy hedge" that would bloom in the spring. I'm in Florida, which I think is Zone 8-9, but I can't ever remember my actual zone.

They say these only bloom in the Spring, but the ones I have must not know that, as they have also bloomed profusely in both the beginning of the Spring season and then again in early Fall.

I just wish there were a variety like this that could be made to bloom all year round, especially in my area.
