No, it's the one on the right. Different lighting and all that, I guess. I did not take the original photo of the samples. What we got did end up looking more like the very first sample I did see, in person. (Then we ordered, and the lots looked like the two in the photo in the first post.) So maybe the photo they took was a little washed out? Who knows.

My concern with both shiplap and the cement tile is that they may quickly become passe. Also, as your supposed, the patterned tile with the shiplap and beam shelf may be too busy. The shiplap will effectively be a stripe pattern and the tile's pattern below it can clash (not always, but frequently); line mixing stripes and plaid, it can be done, but with great care. If you have your heart set on the shiplap and the tile, what about using it above the mantle with gray subway tile in stack set as the surround, then use the cement tile as the kitchen backsplash?

@kudzu9 the gap is on both sides. If I shine a light in the gap it looks like the tile is adhered to brick. I’m mostly worried about the front face of the fireplace eventually falling. We do have a warranty, but this is one of many issues we have discovered since moving in. Trying to get a better understanding of what is happening before filing a claim. So far the repairs they have provided seem to be quick fixes and I am beginning to have trust issues!
