Are you looking for anything? I have a list. Or do you do postage for your things on your list? I'd be very interested in pears. I had a nice tree but fire blight killed it. Wanted to try growing some pears on the far side of my lots where hopefully the fire blight is not a problem. I'd take seeds but I have poor luck growing trees from seed, wondered about rooted cuttings maybe?

hcoffman, I think I'd start by removing apples from the branches that are on the ground and splitting. Then lighten up the load on branches all the way around the tree, removing the damaged, wormy or less desirable fruit first. See if that helps. You'll have pruning to do afterwards. Remove branches that are badly split now. If you've not sprayed the trees this year, you may find a lot of the fruit isn't going to be edible. Post this on the Fruit and Orchard forum, too for more advice specific to fruit trees and help on pruning. Fruit trees take a bit of maintenance and if they are going to produce for you this well they deserve a little help. Good luck to you! Barb

When we had some trees cut down last spring I told the guys that I wanted at least 2-3ft stumps left so that I could plant morning glories to clamber up them - now I am thinking that a couple of these clematis will look pretty climbing up and cascading over the stumps. I am so excited - can't wait to find really neat nooks and crannies to stick them. What I love about them is they don't take up much ground space so you can plant around them and not really loose any garden space plus they give you that visual height plus they are just darn pretty :)..... 'Weeds' can be indicators about your soil and what your soil problems might be. Then many 'weeds' are wildflowers. A 'weed' is just a plant you do not want growing where you do not want it growing. The Crab Grass you see is dead and will not grow again athough the seeds those plants produced may well. Creeping Charlie is a perennial and indicates your soil probably is nutrient poor and does not drain well. While correcting those problems will not totally eliminate CC it will help some. Spraying 'weed' killers can create as many or more problems then they solve and will do considerable harm to our environment. Using mulches is one good method of 'weed' control. Newspaper or cardboard placed on the soil, over these 'weeds' will deprive them of the sunlight they need to grow so they die. While mulches are not the total solution to 'weed' problems they do help quite a lot and if vegetative types of material are used they also provide, over time, organic matter to the soil.
