Anyone for a plant and seed swap gathering in SE Wisconsin?

I have been thinking about hosting a swap at my location in Milwaukee. I know that there is another GW member in Milwaukee that hosts one in September and I do not want to compete if there is already one in the works.

I have gardening neighbors who are interested in one and I could still just make it a neighborhood event but I would prefer a nice mix of people. Besides, I think us neighbors have already exchanged everything with each other over the years (LOL) and would like to share with others.

I haven't been on Gardenweb as much as in the past so I'm not sure whats in the works. You might check the Midwest forum also. If the timing works, we'd be glad to attend.

My parents live on the southside of Milwaukee, so I might be willing to make the drive. What kind of plants are usually traded? How is your swap organized? Is there a pot luck involved, too?

A friend and I are talking about doing a plant swap in late May or early June. Would like to hear if anyone else is interested in trading perennials, annuals, garden plants, or seeds at this time. We live in Manitowoc which is 40 miles South of Green Bay, 75 miles North of Milwaukee, and 50 miles East of Fond du Lac and Appleton. I would like to thank everybody who attended the plant swap today. I don't know about anybody else, but I just don't get this opportunity outside of gardenweb, to talk for hours about plants and to learn more. I had a really nice time today also, though I may have eaten too much, and got sunburn on top of my sunburn! It really was a treat to talk to everybody today. I think it was the smaller crowd that allowed us all to get to know each other, and made it easier for me to host my first plant swap. It was also the first time that I had met most of you, and I certainly hope to see you all again at future swaps! Thanks for coming today, Lynn. I know you're pressed for time with so many things to do. Wishing you the best in your adventure. Bring home something interesting for the 2008 plant swap ;-)

Ah, just finally picked 2 p.m. as the time before I saw the last post. I have invited others through the local Milwaukee freecycle chat group and sounds like a few of them will be participating, too. 1115 43rd St. zip 53108. Â Thinking of the freeway, we are 1 mile west of I-94 between 7 Mile Rd. and Hwy G, near the top of Racine County. Basic directions: take I-94 to 7 Mile Rd., go one mile west (past the 7 Mile Fair) and turn left (south) onto 43rd St. Â We are the second house on the right, in all the trees. Â Home phone: 262-835-2393 in case you get lost or have questions. :-) Plants can be in pots or just boxes or bags, but should have some kind of name tag, on a piece of paper or popsicle stick or whatever, so that you know what you are bringing home. Â Can be flowering plants, vegetables, bushes, groundcover, baby trees, seeds, whatever you have to share. I am going to dig up some things ahead of time, but since it is at my house, I will dig up some things as requested, so wouldn't hurt to bring along a box or something to put plants in. I need less plants than I have to give away, but can use some for the Girl Scout camp where I am in charge of the gardens this year. Marcia

I'm potentially interested. I'm about 45 mins south of Milwaukee. If you get enough people interested maybe you could ask them to list what they have available for swap. I'd like to know if there's something I want before I would make the drive.

I could bring daylilies (burgundy), blue alpine columbine, Indian Paintbrush creeping sedum, mini irises, and probably more if I thought about it.

Marcie contacted me several weeks ago and asked if I was going to have a swap this year (I'm the one who usually has one in September) and I told her that she could host it this year and I might be able to attend. Any word on how the plans are coming? In the past we had dozens and dozens of plants...sometimes indoors and sometimes outdoors. I have been planting an area at work so that's where most of my divisions have been going this year, but I might be able to come up with a few more. Lori
