Grasses love the sun, and Miscanthus tolerates containers very well. The container should hold at least 2-3 gallons of soil and when the plants become root bound, it will limit growth, so plan on dividing often. How tall it gets depends on the cultivar you select and the cultural conditions you supply. It's a low maintenance planting. They don't need much in the way of fertilizer and require that you splash some water on them regularly. Over-fertilizing can cause the stems to 'flop' over. Addition of 0-0-3 ProTeKt will help keep that from happening and harden the plant against a short list of cultural adversities, so it's well worth investigating. Indeed, heavy equipment needed for large clumps! Just dug up a rather large patch today and divided it into 5 8" sets. started with a sharp spade, which wouldn't come close to splitting it, it was so dense. Ended up using a v tooth saw. No harm done, you really can't get too brutal with these. A tip though, is to wait until after the active growing season is done, cut them down to 6-12" and then divide for best results.

It is unfortunate that misinformation continues to be repeated about glyphosate. Denmark has not banned glyphosate, nor have "many European countries". Denmark at one point thought that some of the monitoring they were doing showed that glyphosate could move into agricultural field drainage water in autumn but once they looked at their data and related it to the methodology they used, they enacted no ban whatsoever. It is of very low toxicity, and breaks down completely into natural constituents over time. It is of equal or lower toxicity than most household products such as detergent, soaps, shampoos, cleaners etc. and far less toxic than some of the "alternatives" often discussed such as bleach, kerosene, high strength vinegars and so on. Thanks for the input! Ohhh, I forgot about Pink Muhly...that's definitely going on the "plant want" list. I was at one of the big box stores a few days ago and asked when they might put the zebra grass on sale and the manager offered to sell me them for 1/2 price!!! Yippee! I got four of them.
