summer blooming bulbs and groundcovers

I'm planning my fall plantings. The bulb beds are woodland edge, in full sun in the spring, but go to A.M.full shade/P.M. bright sun as the woods leaf out. The spring bulbs (daffs,dutch iris,crocus,hyacinths, etc.) are doing great, but I'd love to have some summer- and even fall-blooming bulbs for some color. Any suggestions? I'm thinking about covering them with the Georgia Blue veronica, but I'm open to other ideas.

Oh my...I'm losing my mind. Not a good feeling, let me tell ya. I responded to this thread, but somehow I got mixed up and posted on another thread. Great. I can only imagine the people over on the other thread reading my comments and looking at the pictures I posted, saying, "Huh?"

Well...here's a link to that thread. Just scroll down to the first pictures loaded...I think it is the forth response, and you'll see what is still surviving in my gardens and yard. Surviving for now, that is!

Well...I didn't respond to this thread, after all. Please ignore my other post and forget I ever said anything...of course, if you're a Ginko Distributer, you might want to give me a call...seems like I'm in dire need of some brain function help. :)

I would not expect either to flower this year.....and I would wonder if the bulbs/rhizomes are still viable... But....at any rate, dig a hole and bury them!...They may grow....but they may not. Linda C

It's not that late. I would just plant them since they are already here. What would you do with them if you don't plant them? They might be a little late, but at least you'll get to enjoy them.

White forget-me-not. If your timing's right - White Nancy Lamium. For me, Jetfire has usually gone over before the white Epimedium starts but it could be a possible. If it doesn't have to be flowers - the early leaves of Brunnera Jack Frost can be good, or Majeste Pulmonaria. Trouble is - Jetfire is such a successful multiplier that the clumps need fairly frequent management so a long-term perennial is not always a smart move (telling myself, and probably not listening...lol) Another possible is white primroses with a strong yellow centre, or a soft yellow primrose. They make useful clumps and it's easier to manage the bulb groups than if the groundcover is total.

My choice and favorite choice is freesia. I plant them in late Fall for bloom in early Spring, then have an alternate set that I plant in Spring for early Summer to late Summer bloom while the leaves on the previous set set out to dry. I plant them in planters on my porch and deck and not in the yard because they are so highly fragrant that I would otherwise be on my hands and knees in the grassy yard just to take in their beauty and fragrance. LOL I have a rose cottage garden and as much as I love roses, freesia is right there with hyacinth among my most favorite of scents not to mention looks! Freesia releases a burst rather than remain fragrant like roses. I pluck the flowers and put them in tiny bottles of water next to my reading area and living room, just to be able to take in the scent. Here is a link that might be useful:

Georgia Blue veronica is a good idea because it is pretty drought tolerant (although I think in full sun, mine might be a gonner now.. :(

How about lycoris bulbs, sternberia, agapanthus blooms earlier in the summer, Colchicum, the very dwarf crinums (they are hardy outside of zone 9), rain lilies will do OK for you if they get a baking in the PM.
