HAVE: 2009 Spring Swap in Marine City May 23rd

I'm sure there are many of you that are as sick of snow snow snow and cold cold cold as I am. Therefore, I thought I would get us all thinking of springtime by announcing 2009 Spring Swap. Mark your calendars!

It will be held downtown Marine City, by the new town clock. Address is 475 S. Water St. Google Riviera Restaurant in Marine City 48039 and you will be able to find it. You are welcome to call me at 586 337 7498 if you get lost, or want additional info, or just to say hello! You can email me privately at gardenbabe@comcast.net too.

Date: Sat. May 23rd, 2009

Time: Noon, swapping begins sharply at 12:30pm. This gives us all time to check in and check out all the participants plants.

What to bring: Perennials, annuals, seeds, bulbs, houseplants, garden books, door prize (optional)

Details: Door prize can be anything garden related or not. You will receive a ticket and tickets will be drawn during the swap.

Seeds will be traded 10 packs=1 plant

Bulbs will be traded 1 large bulb=1 plant

Bulbs will be traded 5 medium bulbs=1 plant

Small bulbs will be traded 10 bulbs=1 plant

Garden books can be traded 1 book=1plant

Plant details: Please label your plants if possible.

Bring a table if you want, or just line them along the sidewalk. If it rains, the swap will be held in my garage at 241 S. Second St. I have only had it rain at two of my swaps, and they still turned out great! Gardeners arent afraid of rain anyways :) hehehe

As with all my swaps, this will be round robin style. I firmly believe that this method ensures everyone to receive at least a couple of plants they really want.

Don't have any plants to swap? Don't worry, come anyways, enjoy the beautiful waterfront of Marine City, meet new garden friends, and don't be surprised if you come home with a few new plants and invitations to gardeners homes to help thin out their plants, get ideas, give tips on planting seeds, etc.

After the swap, anyone that wants to see my gardens are welcome to come over for appetizers and some nice garden conversation. Please bring your own drink if you want something other than water or koolaid. I will be opening my seed box stash to everyone at this time.

If you plan on attending, please let me know if possible, so I know how much appetizers to make, and if attending the swap only, please let me know so I know approximately how many name tags to make, etc.

Donations of extra pots or anything else garden related is welcomed and there will be a place designated so everyone can help themselves.

Lastly, there will be a fall plant swap to be announced later and held September 19th. This will probably be at Lori's in Washington Twp

Sally, I would love to trade with you for Tricyrtis 'Autumn Glow'. Do you have either of the variegated Tricyrtis' 'Lightning Strike' and or 'Samurai'? Also, either or both Monardas? I can dig some M. 'Jacob Kline' for you if you are interested. I am interested in either Canna and your Tradescatia and Var. Hosta if I have something that you would like in return. I posted a partial list of things that I have available earlier in this discussion. Are you still interested in Mexican Petunias? I need to dig several clumps from the flowerbed in front of our house and can bring you several if you want them. Root Digger. I will bring two Pineapple Guava and give them to Tammy for you. Brenda, my Impatien zombensis still lives. I can take a cutting and either bring it tomorrow, or root it myself and give it to you later? I bought an Impatiens species from Tony in February. I can divide a piece of it for you also if you like.

Got in at 1:30am Sunday so we really did miss the get-together by a mile. So how did it all go, folks? Although I got to see some nice wildflowers along the highways of western and northwestern US, it was certainly nothing like what was to be found at Kat's place... will definitely have to schedule vacation time around next year's hootenanny. ;-) And while I was gone the crabgrass had a grand time moving in across my unfinished beds. :-P Oh well, something to do for the rest of the summer, right? ;-) I did save some seeds of an unknown wildflower/weed in South Dakota; it was the only thing with set seed that I could find. I'll let you know if I ever learn what it is. Looking forward to hearing how it went. Did everything I donated find homes? :-) Terri

yeah! more fun! more food! more plants! best of all seeing all of the green friends again! I am thanking heaven I am making my garden paths narrower this summer. (the better to squeeze a few more plants in... does this mean I am an addict now? I can just see the 12 step program... 1.take your hands off the shovel.2. take your hands off the watering can.3.take your eyes off the seed catalog.4.stop letting your car drive you to the nursery.5.confess you have a problem. 6.try not to make too many cuttings from your houseplants unless someone wants them.7 make sure you have enough money to buy your own veggies (if not growing one or two wont hurt).8.your lawn looks bad - better water it.. if a few drops land on the garden then that is just bad luck. we all have that. 9.it is a proven fact that flowers make people feel better. growing a couple of daisys is improving your neighbors lives. 10. the daisys worked you got a couple of smiles better put in some daylilies. 11. they stoped blooming better fill in the bare patches with some varigated foliage plants for better colour. 12. take a deep breath and your cured! lol

Hi, this is Ying. I will be happy to host the swap if Sandy cannot. I live in Woodbury's Stonemill Farm community and they have a community center we can use. The center right now have 6/7, 6/21 open noon - 6pm. or 6/14 open noon-2pm. That is if we need to use the inside of the building. If we just want to sit on the deck or the outside picnic table, then we can use it any time. So if we want to start like 11am, we can put our plants on the outside lawn and food on the outside picnic table, then move in to eat at noon. I am open to all 3 days. Please let me know which day is best so I can go reserve the center, it books up fast. The community center looks like this, with outside picnic tables that do not require reservation. Inside has bathrooms that do not require reservation. If we are just going to use the outside of the building then any day is good.
