#2 looks like crape myrtle
#5 looks like a canna

My vinca thrives in partial sun, though they might also work well in full sun though requiring a bit more water.

#1 looks more like a Podocarpus .
#4 is a highly invasive fern - eliminate .
#5 - some kind of canna ?

Vinca periwinkle goes directly in the ground as a ground cover . Prefers part shade/part sun and not all day full blazing sun . Water until established . Once settled , it will tell you when it needs water by wilting for you . Laughs at freezes even into the teens . No pests or diseases issues .

The rouge plant is a Florida native . It will freeze back in a hard winter but return . Plant in some shade . It must have another name because I could not find much info on it . I like it with it's tiny white flowers that turn into pretty bright red berries . Castorp gave me one last year so maybe he can chime in and enlighten us both .

Hey Mary Mary, how does your garden grow? Sounds like you and jonnys are of the same mind on the vinca. Do you think it would work down on the north end of my house where the florida anise is? Does it spread pretty quickly? Maybe that would be a good place for the rouge plant, too.

I think the last one looks like a canna, also but just was not really sure. Also, I know that #3 came from Carmen (gardencraze) and that she did tell me what it was.

It looks great in large containers too as it trails beautifully .
Looks prettier with some water but can be quite drought tolerant and carefree once established . Not a real fast grower and easy to control if it is growing too much for you .

Melissa, your canna looks like the one Christine gave me. She said it gets about 6' tall and has red blooms, and is a hummingbird magnet. If it's the same one, that is. Mine is in full sun in the middle of my big bed, where I really needed something with large leaves. It's putting out new growth already, and I love it! (Thanks, Christine!)

number 3 is a clivia. It would like improved soil and no direct sun...if you can help it! Water would be good too. Although I've seen it survive w/o supplemental watering. It blooms in the spring.
I agree that you should ditch #4.

Maracia, You will enjoy the canna when it blooms. The canna in picture #5 did not come from me unless it did an incredible amount of growing. I gave you the largest clump.

Melissa, that canna looks real healthy so whatever color it is I bet it will be a good one.

I agree with Karalynn. Additionally, #3 looks like an orchid, perhaps an oncidium, or a vanda from a pot. Hard to tell.

The asparagus fern is really neat in pots where it's kept from spreading, but do not stick it in the ground unless you want it to take over.

#5 is the canna I left behind, I mean gave you. There should have been 2 pots. I'd love to say I got them from Leu Gardens or whatnot, but the truth is they came from a big bag from Home Depot or Lowes a few months ago. It was a mixed color lot, so it could be any color (and potentially any height). I'd wager red or yellow though. I usually keep the "box tops" so I"ll see if I can find it and see what it says about the expected height.

I know exactly what you mean! :o) And now I remember you giving them (cough cough) to me. Yes, there are two pots. What I have done with them and the cannas that I had pulled earlier in the year is create a "canna zone" down near the fence where it is lower and moister. We will see what comes up because I have all sorts mixed together. Kind of like a mystery canna casserole.

#2 must be the Chinese red fringe lorapetalum .
I have some here and like them .
People try and keep them clipped as bushes when really the plants want to grow into small trees . They top out at maybe 12 feet after years and have graceful arching branches , pretty purplish leaves and those red fringy looking flowers you see now . Quite nice as a specimen piece or at the edge of your property .

#4 - Asparagus "fern" ( not actually a fern because it flowers) -I have tons of that in my yard and am trying to eliminate it. Even in a pot, it will produce highly viable seeds that the birds will spread. Very difficult to eliminate once it spreads, because it has tubers and THORNS. It is classified as invasive in Florida, and its only redeeming feature is that it feeds birds.

As others have already said, you may want to consider tossing it...

All the others are bonus plants! I consider that clivia to be a very good catch.
