Where do YOU buy fragrant plants?

I'm on a search for some fragrant plants but I don't know where to buy them.

Where have you found the biggest selection or best prices or most reasonable shipping costs?

I shop Forest Farm often, but they don't have any Michellias, and it makes me wonder what else they don't have ...

Michelias?

There are a couple of excellent nurseries in South Carolina, send me an email and I'll give you their websites.

Gardino's nusery is the best I have found so far. I have ordered several plants from them and all have arrived in great cond. I think they were hit pretty hard by Wilma but Im sure they will be taking more orders when normal mail service returns. You can google their name or send me an email Ill give you the website.

Elkay! Are they easy to care for in the winter? If so, I would like to try one. Do they drop their leaves and if so thank God, because I hear spider mites love these plants. Your plants are so pretty and must smell devine! Jodik...I must say that Orchids are my favorites next to Citrus. You never know what you are going to get, and the fragrance is breath taking on everyone of them. I can't wait to see the blooms and smell. Thanks again for your appreciated and very kind comments. It means a lot! Yes, the African Gardenia is one of the best plants anyoen could own. They are easy to grow if grown in a very porous mix and kept warm. Humidity not required and that's it! They flower continually all year. It has never been out of bloom since I have had it. This is a keeper! It smells heavenly! Thank you Jodik:-))) Jojo, same to you! Looks like you love the same plant Jodik does..lol You know, come the spring, I can always start cuttings from this plant if anyone is brave enough to give it a shot. All I really grow anymore are Darlingtonia's, a Ping and a few Sars. I have some wild taken photos on my Flickr page. I guess that I should take some recent photos of my group! I grew up near California Carnivores and can't say enough good things about Peter and Marilee! I used to obsesively lurk there and go through everything every chance I got. That was when they were located at the Mark West Vineyards. Even then, their plants were spectacular and since the move to a larger space, it's breathtaking. I moved and hadn't been there in years and yet they always remembered me. I even brought wild collected Nepenthes seeds back from Kalimantan for them. A few years ago, I was showing a visiting friend the Giant Redwoods and heard someone call my name in the giftshop. It was Marilee and I was really surprised that she remembered what I looked like! (Small world!)Although I had made a stop there once on my way to Oregon, I hadn't seen her in several years. Next time I get down that way, I really have to stop in. The last time, I must ahve looked a mess. I had a truck and horsetrailer and had been drivin' all night! ;~) The point is...great people, great plants and have I mentioned great people? Scott

where do you buy pond plants ?

Most of mine are from trades or purchased from members on an aquatic and terrestrial plant exchange. If I purchase commercially they are always from Hughes Water Gardens. I never see viable plants at big box stores. Always tiny, mislabeled and usually more than half dead. Here is a link that might be useful: Hughes Water Gardens

I grow vegetables, fruit, bulb, perennials, annuals, and roses. I'm not crazy about mail ordering vegetable plants, unless it is something like asparagus. Our local Master Gardeners has a spring plant sale. See if yours does, too. Also buy them from better nurseries, that is, a local nursery that is not a big box store. Growing from seed is actually not that difficult. My early attempts resulted in failure but I do just fine these days. I use the under-counter florescent lights in my kitchen. I rig up a shelf to get the plants high once they germinate. You'd laugh at the shelf, a wire rack sitting on four tall, unopened juice bottles. It works, though. The plant tops need to be just a couple of inches from the light source, which is why you want florescent light, not regular incandescent bulbs. At that close distance, a bulb gives off so much heat it will fry the plants. Try potting up your young plants into slightly larger pots as they grow, then set them out for a few hours each day to get used to the outdoor conditions. Then when you actually plant them in the beds, water them daily for a while, and protect them from birds or squirrels that want to eat the young plants. I like Flower Scent Gardens. The owner, Glenn, searches for the most fragrant of each kind of flower. Last I knew, he was planning to put out a smaller list this year--something about health problems in his family, plus it sounds like he had to deal with some very unkind people this year. But hopefully things have smoothed out. Even a smaller list will be worth your time.

Everything he has sent me has been very healthy, and the packing is extremely well done. Good prices too. I've ordered from him for years.

The plant list is not your same 'ol same 'ol. Some of the things he carries are not available anywhere else.

I just checked out Flower scent gardens, and looks like they have some great fragrant plants. I decided I'm not going crazy buying more roses this year, but am adding hummingbird attracting plants and fragrant flowers to my gardens. I will definitely be ordering from Flower scent gardens. I second the recommend on Flowerscent gardens. I have ordered for a couple of yrs and Glenn's plants and seeds are the best!

Bluestone Perennials and ForestFarm are 2 others that I order from a lot.
