drying holly stems and juniper berries?
Comments (1)When you preserve juniper that has berries with glycerine and usually a natural color green dye, the juniper will preserve and the foilage will color but the berries do not. The reason that the berries do not take up the dye nor the glycerin is because berries do not have any draw. The best book on glycerine preserving with dyes and glycerine that I have ever read is publication #420 "Guidelines for Preserving and Coloring Flowers and Foliage with Glycerin and Dyes" By Mark Koch. You can get the information at the web site of Robert Koch Industries, Inc. www.kochcolor.com...See MoreBest Way to Propagate Holly Cuttings?
Comments (5)My wife seen an article about growing holly cuttings. She has always loved holly but she would rather grow them her self rather then purchase a full grown plant. She has great luck saving almost dead plant and does great at growing from seeds as well. My line of work takes me to many areas of town and in some cases out of state but in our sane zone. We really don't have much of a winter here but it has it moments. I recently started gathering seeds and seed pods in the area and I have see about 10 to 15 different varieties of holly. Doing research on how to tell them apart get a bit rough at times but from what I can tell the best way is by the shape of the leaves. I have collected only about 3 different varieties so far and the time for gathering them is almost over I think. The more rare varieties around didn't have berries. I'm not sure what gender they are. I didn't see them bloom. My question is. If I gather cutting from these plants in spring while I'm at work and keep them in water what are the chances they would they still be sufficient for propagating from??...See MoreBest way to kill a cedar tree stump?
Comments (5)I kill cedar (mountain ashe Juniper) ALL the time. IT will die if you cut below the lowest growing branch if it is Mountain Ashe Juniper or eastern Red Cedar. If it is Red Berry juniper, you need poison. It sprouts from the base and is more difficult. Killing cedar...See MoreAny possible way to kill/remove rosa multiflora?
Comments (4)Tordon...it has worked wonders on the fence lines and pastures on our place. You can get it at any farm and home supply store...be very careful with it as it will kill any woody plant (trees that you want to keep) in it's path if there is even a breeze...only get it on the plant to be snuffed out...it will do the job. Other than that I can only suggest goats cause they eat everything. Multiflora rose seemed like a good idea at the time much like the folks in the south thought kudzu would solve their problem....See Moreherboil
