When I was researcing for my bug book, this was a corner I had to investigate. There are places in Canada which sell beneficials but in your case, unless you have about 500 plants, I wouldn't think you would need them. If you wanted to research for them, just write in beneficial insects canada and things will pop up. With some of the preditor insects you have to buy from a place which is quite near you so you can get them within a 24-hour period because they begin to eat each other. Some are embedded in a type of sponge which you dampen then squeeze out and release the tiny insects. The whole operation is facinating and I believe it costs about $25 for certain types. But with your small collection, I don't think you would have enough bugs to keep these preditors alive for long. Depending on what problem you are experiencing, you may be able to control this with home-made methods. Some bugs will only be controlled with poisonous chemicals like mite and Soil mealies. Nancy

I grew up in Montreal in the 50s-60s and we always considered May 24 as the earliest time to plant out tender annuals such as petunias, impatiens, etc. I agree with another poster who recommended June 1 for warm weather plants such as tomatoes, peppers, corn and the tender annuals. If they have been hardened off (i.e.used to the cold) perennials can be planted in late April or early May. People often suggest buying tender plants before May 24 (for a better selection) but keeping them in a protected spot near the foundation of your house for example. Be prepared to bring them in to your garage for the night if heavy frost is predicted. If you are planting vegetables, then check the web or your plant books to see which ones acually like cool weather. Some that do are peas, spinach, lettuce, radishes and so forth. They can be direct sown in a garden before May 24.

I would contact Mike directly via phone I find its the best way to reach him. He brokers them from Florida and direct ships to your house with a common carrier. He an get you anything from 1 gallon up to 15 feet. I would contact him as soon as you can and arrange for purchase and shipping. I bought mine in February and had them arrive the last week of March; they were in the ground by March 31st. Cost is very dependent on size and with the larger ones there is a pallet minimum. I bought 5 trees that were 6-7 feet tall. The cost for me for 5 big ones was $2,500.00 which included delivery. The quality of the palms really is unsurpassed, they are amazing! Like I said the bigger the more money, but I wanted to start big and was prepared to do what I had to do to get them to survive Pittsburgh winters (so far so good) On facebook I am a member of Zone-Pushers: Gardening Beyond Your Zone...this is a great group for people who grow palms out of their hardiness zone. I have posted a time lapse video there of winterizing one of my larger palms. As for warranty; due to the fact they are being brought north and out of normal growing zones there is no warranty I am aware of. Hope this helps. Kevin
