Nice to know you made it safely Meerkittie and sorry to hear you had to leave your babies behind :(I know it is always a lot of work to settle down in a new city. Montreal is always more or less green in the summer, this one though is extraordinarily green with all the rain we are having. for some one who comes from a dry climate, all the greenery is very beautiful. For us Montrealers it is nice but the majority would appreciate having a bit of a more traditional summer with more sun. We have a few garden centers and nurseries around the city. If you have a car, it will be easier to get there I will try to gather a few of them and post them in a few days. In the meantime, perhaps you would like to check a farmer's market in the Plateau around Marianne St. Apparently the farmers are there every Sunday morning until the month of October. Maybe , they carry plants as well. You could also check Marché Jean-Talon. They usually carry plants and flowers. Also Atwater Market and Marché de l'Ouest in the West Island. In any event, let us know if we could help in any way. We will be glad. P.S. I hate to admit that I have carried a few cuttings of quite a variety of plants in my suitcase from overseas and I have lost very few of them. I still have a geranium that I brought from Seville 25 years ago! Pssssst.!

Spruce...thanks for the idea about asking where a nursery gets their seed. I am surprised that they don't mind telling you. I will keep that in mind. Forest Farm is a catalog I have but I haven't ordered from them before. Once in awhile I get up to Maine. You never know. tsugajunkie...yes, I do understand that white pine is native to Maine and Tsuga canadensis is native to the East Coast. I got the impression that some of the ornamental conifers are bothered by cold weather and frost. Adrian Bloom mentions in his book, not planting some varieties in an East facing location because in the spring, the early morning son would thaw them out just in time for the cold to get them later. mrgpag...Broken Arrow Nursery is a great idea! I have been there once before and they really impressed me with the quality of their plant material at reasonable prices. Montreal... Canada, right? I'm thinking your best bet is internet shopping rather than local plant stores- As no passiflora will survive outside there year round. You *might* get lucky and find one at Lowes or something.. Maybe Home Depot (you guys have those?) But I kinda doubt it. 8 years ago had you been in the vicinity of Watertown Ny you could have come by & seen mine- Climbing all over the house in the summer & tied up inside in the winter. Other than that I don't know where one might be seen out there.

Hi everyone. lavandula8(5B) - WOW! what a great lot of pictures of these wonderful plants and thanks so much for sharing them with us. They obviously have a very knowledgeable horticulturist looking after the plants in that Botanical Garden as they all look so healthy and well cared for. So often you see pictures of collections in botanic gardens where the condition of the plants is less than ideal but these are superb. It must be great to be able to visit this place on a regular basis, and as well as the benefit of free entry because you are "friends of the botanic garden", do you also get the opportunity to volunteer to help with routine work and converse with the person in charge. This is what happens at the Botanical Gardens near where I live as the work is largely done by volunteers with a qualified horticulturist in charge and doing the supervising. Brom mates I know who are also "friends of our local botanic garden" often the tell me of the knowledge they pick up along the way and how its a "two way exchange"; the garden gets the benefit of their volunteer labour and in return they get free entry, pick up more knowledge and learn new skills.
