Dale Thomas Intros blooming today. (Late blooming)

The late blooming daylily beds look so good with all the bloom going on. The Dale Thomas intros, that I have written about on many other threads, are truley a joy to look at. Here are just afew of all the Thomas intros blooming today.

How great to be having this kind of late bloom! I looked these up and some others by Thomas and was a bit disappointed by the low registered bud counts. Do you find Sellstation Sunset has more buds than the others?

I never noticed low registered bud counts. I would say all my Thomas intros have at least normal by my garden budcounts and most are terrific this their second year here. Matter of fact, I think I will go look and report on some right now. Stay tuned.

I have some late bloomers scattered in amoung the regular daylilies as I either didn't notice that they were lates or they didn't really bloom late. Seems to have taken them some time to get their acts together. Others just had not yet bloomed like Both North Wind Curly Joe and Up Against The Sun had FFO today. So did GUAVA JELLY, my Melanie Mason late bloomer, and Victoriana, from Brian Culver and Finial Destination from Karol just opened FFO the other day. FFO!!!! On July 28th. That is just fantastic. Anyway. Last year I made a small daylily bed section with some of those late bloomers and the Dale Thomas intros I had then. I finished it this year. It is just really coming into bloom now, in fact not everything in it has had FFO yet. Then I also last fall extended the Snapdragon garden by three rows of Hibbard lates and its ok this year but I can see that its going to pay off big time as sooon as these plants get some more time and size under them. Plus I have some more Hibard lates as a partial row in the front yard so that looks good. Plus I also bought MORE Dale Thomas lates and VL this spring and put in a new daylily section by making that one row in front of the late blooming new Rechamps there in the second row. Again, those two rows barely look like anything but give them some time. And last but not least, I have another garden section that is those extra late blooming Olallie Daylilies I added last August. Some scapes showing there but not yet ready to bloom. I really, really worked on this after bloom season last year because it was just over much too soon. I wanted to change that.

Vickie- Thanks for the compliment. I like the effect of the sun hitting the flowers while the backround stays dark. I can get it certain times of day in the garden. Debra- BUTTERSCOTCH HARVEST has lots of different looks to it's flowers. You can see on the picture that the three flowers are each different from one another.

Olallie Daylilies- Are they late blooming?

We live in McIndoe Falls, Vt. 2 years ago I visited Olallie Daylily Nursery right after Labor Day, with camera! I figured the best way to select late bloomers was to see the late bloomers in the display gardens! They couldn't have been nicer and I came home w/ the back seat full:) I alternated late bloomers with summer bloomers along our drive and up the walk to the kitchen door. Goal was to have full season bloom. I had 11 daylilies blossuming still on Oct 27th. Now, the bad news! I can't locate my "map" so can't list them by name. The map will show up.. The late bloomers are late bloomers and if you have an opportunity to visit the nursery around Labor Day, I suggest you do so!

I did some budcounts on Thomas intros. Some might be off as these are all blooming and its difficult to get an accurant count until you have empty scapes and budscars. So they might be low, but they are deffinately at least what I have counted.

We had that dry spell here of 6 weeks with rain before they started blooming. But since then we have gotten decent rains. So with more water maybe more blooming?

Rita, these are all so beautiful. SELLSTATION PLUM CRAZY is my favorite of this batch.

Rita - Thanks for giving us the bud counts on those. I was most interested in S. Campfire, but it's only registered as having 10 buds and two-way branching. It did better than that for you though. Of the ones I knew about and looked up, S. Sunset had the best bud count - 26. I can't wait to see a photo of Dancing With Sandra. Please post one soon.

Those are really pretty Rita. I don't consider them to be "plain" at all and aren't they nice and late as far as this year goes?
I think I like Sellsation Sunset the best, but Sellsation Plum Crazy is gorgeous.

Gosh, RITA, They are all gorgeous.I just love that SELLSTATION PLUM CRAZY and also S. SUNSET and S. FRIENDSHIP.. I guess the ones you listed Bud counts on, has not bloomed yet?? I don't remember seeing them. I am glad you are getting blooms.You have done so much work in your gardens, you need a reward of lots of blooms.

The ones I listed bud counts on are blooming but its impossible to be totally accourate until they finish.

I posted a picture of DANCING WITH SANDRA on its on thread for anyone interested. Plus here's a picture here also.

They are all pretty Rita, but Dancing with Sandra is entrancing. I really like that one.
