I know I know - no one should ever dig these up! But before you start getting all excited let me tell you where they were growing - in the parking lot (curb) of my daughters Elem. school! I really only dug them becase I figured the lawn crew would destoy them. They were growing where only pine straw should be.

I did my best to dig a large area so as not to disturb the surrounding soil. My question for you all - Will they make it?

They might. I have relocated some by digging about 12 inches out in all directions. Plant them at the same level they were growing, preferably in a piney area with lots of organic material (pine "duff", the partially decomposed bits of pine straw is good). Keep them sufficiently watered, don't fertilize. Were they blooming?

Thanks for the encouragment, one is blooming and the other two are very small. I did dig a good sized root ball and I planted them in about 10 min of digging them. I'm trying two different location and I watered them well. I left one there because it was more hidden.

Something like Paphiopedilum insigne does better here outside in in a Shade-house or in a shaded spot in the garden than in a glass-house. So it depends a bit on the ancestors where you site your Paph. because some like it warmer than insigne. I think they need a mix that doesn't dry out between waterings, in other words just moist all the time rather than very wet or very dry. Not much help! See if you can find some complete culture notes on the net that are written for NE USA.

I love lady slippers too (Pedilanthus macrocarpus) and probably have fifteen of them in my garden in pots and in the ground. I really like them and hope yours does well for you. I have some in full hot amazing sun, and some in nice bright shade, and lots in-between all combinations are in pots and in ground so they're pretty darn flexible. they like a good drink and then like getting dry, like lazy said. I water them twice a month at this time of year and they seem really happy. How often are you watering yours? Definitely make sure they dry out between big drinks. Good luck and keep us posted! I have these seeds to trade to someone who wants to give them a try. Please do the research into germination and growth. I would like to trade for a various mix of brugmansia seeds or cuttings, dont have to be named varieties. Will gladly pay the difference in shipping for cuttings. Prefer pink/orange shades. In retrospect, it might be parviflorum x kentuckiense. I must say that I don’t have a ton of experience with hybrids... some, but not nearly as much as with the species.
