My Bud Bennett Daylilies this year (photos)

I bought a couple new daylilies from Bud Bennett this year and I'm really happy with them. (I'm glad he lives nearby so I can get daylilies from him.) They always open well, even in cool weather.

Tactical Cat in hot weather

On a cool morning it has a lot of blue in it:

Wild Cherry Wine is a true pink and large:

I've had Salty Skipper a few years and it has always grown and bloomed well. It blooms fairly late.

It's too bad his daylilies aren't more widely available.

Yes, it is too bad, because I'd like to own every one of these. Wild Cherry Wine is a beautiful pink, and I've been wanting Salty Skipper for a while now. Thanks for the great photos.

Really lovely pink on Runaway Romance, & just enough of an edge. Oddly, my favorite is Sitting Cool. I usually go for the colorful ones, but something about this one just calls my name.

I love the few Bennetts I have. David, Fast Pleasure is just stunning! I love that one. I like Bo Knows and Blues in the Night. Of course Salty Skipper is always a favorite although mine was down a bit in blooming this year. I divided Wild Cherry wine last year and it hasn't quite recovered yet, but it will, I am sure. It is a beautiful bloom always. And the Beauty with Motion which I got from you ia a winner too with the large flat blooms. Runway romance is a pretty thing, and Lucky Debut and Fashionnaire are beauties. Of course I like all of them. what a lovely post, David. Thank you. kay

Geeez, I have to join the crowd. These are just wonderful! I am especially taken by Wild Cherry Wine. What a stunning pink. Love it.

Do you know if he sells on the Lily Auction? I wish he were close enough to visit. Deffinately deserves to be better known.

Very very nice! I liked Tactical Cat in both of it's forms, but was totally in love with Wild Cherry Wine. WOW!

I third or fourth the question as to where you buy his daylilies? I have only 1 which was sent to me from Margo Reed-Woodhenge as a gift - KIWI MAGIC.

I too would order all of them. I really need a start of Salty Skipper. That is exactly my kind of daylily. It is a beautiful pink and I love pink. Thank you so much for posting them, Juliet.

Thanks everyone - glad you liked the photos! I buy directly from Bud Bennett. He's actually having an open garden this Sunday and then selling some daylilies out of his garden the next two weekends. He also usually donates daylilies to our daylily club sales. (Our next sale is at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, MD on August 14 starting at 9 a.m.) He also does limited mail order, but he doesn't have e-mail and he only ships from mid-April until mid-July.

Otherwise, Bud Bennett's daylilies don't seem to be very well distributed. Singing Oakes Gardens has Wild Cherry Wine. I ordered from them in 2008 and they sent very nice plants. A few years ago they had Salty Skipper, but it isn't in their price list anymore. Woodhenge Gardens sells several of Mr. Bennett's daylilies, but not the ones I have. (His daylilies are listed under F. Bennett because his actual name is Frank.) I ordered from Woodhenge Gardens a few years ago and they sent nice plants too.

All three of those are great looking daylilies. I'll have to look into the Bennett intros.

Well, i am a little later chiming in, but those are just wonderful daylilies. I hope he does well in his open house/garden sale as his pretties deserve more widespread recognition. Those are so nice, all of them. Thanks for posting them and letting us see his work! jan g.

WOW!!!! I love that WILD CHERRY WINE.Its really gorgeous.The SALTY SKIPPER is real pretty, too, but not as pretty as WILD CHERRY WINE.
