I have some questions about older varities

I have a big bed of mixed varieties from 12 or more years ago. First question, do you get a higher bloom count on the newer daylilies? Second question, some of mine hold the blooms high above the foliage on very long scapes. Is this common in older varieties? Last queston, I have noticed in photos forum members don't show large clumps of plants. Do you divide often to keep clumps to 2 or 3 plants?
