Thanks everybody for your nice comments! I looked at them in afternoon to see how they looked after the sun. Almost all were baked and faded. Siloam Doodlebug looked quite good, almost like in the morning, but the champion was Wild Horse, it looked just like in the morning, with slight diamond dusting, vibrant colors and all, what a good daylily. But I don't want to grow only light and small flowers. Oh well, I'll enjoy the rest in the mornings.

They all look so great, I love your Terry Lyninger. I've been wanting to get it for a couple of years & just haven't, this may be the year. Shelby's Song is gorgeous & may be my very favorite. I think my neighbors must have put out beetle traps. Early in the year it looked like I was going to be overrun by them again, then they just went away. I do see occasional ones, but I can squish them. Guess it is a good thing Rita didn't take me up on the offer of free Japanese beetles, I wouldn't have been able to send them :)

Thanks everyone! Most of my seedlings are crosses of purples/cranberries, so it's nice to see something a little different. :) There are a few other seedlings from that cross that should bloom soon too. Nat, it seems like maybe 1/2 of mine bloom the year after planting. I didn't really keep records prior to last year - so here's some preliminary info from that. Last spring, March - May, I started a bunch of seeds inside. In September, I planted 157 of those seedlings in the ground. I lost maybe 10% of those over the winter (I need to actually count, but haven't done that). I currently have about 90 of those with scapes... and I'm guessing some more might put up scapes. That's a lot more than I was expecting. I did direct sow one batch of seeds in the ground last year - I don't remember when, but probably May. Of those seeds, several sprouted and 1 of them has a scape. I did not plant many seeds this spring, got a really late start (May) and only have about 20-30. The heat we've had is too much though and I'm not sure how many of those will even make it. I also planted some directly in the ground in June and a few in cups inside a week or two ago and those are sprouting now. Not many of the ones in the ground are sprouting, too many critters around messing with things.
