Should I Let My Brand New Tree Fruit?

I've got a new persimmon tree which was only planted six weeks ago. I'm amazed at how quickly it's sprouting new limbs and greening up. I don't think I've ever seen any tree grow this fast.

Now, it's covered with flowers. I'm assuming that fruit will soon follow. Seeing as how it's only a 7-gallon tree and brand new, should I pick the fruit as soon as they form to let the tree put its energy into rooting instead of developing fruit?

Would it hurt anything to leave just one fruit on, just to see how it turns out?
