I almost didn't watch it this morning ... I have no interest in Japanese maples. But it was really good. Bill Hudgins (owner of the garden) is an Atlanta garden designer and owns a garden shop called Lush Life in Atlanta. The garden is obviously well designed and a feast for the eyes (even for those of us not interested in using tons and tons of boxwood!). Many, many containers and striking arrangements, lots of repetition to pull it all together. Although trimming those boxwoods must be a lot of work. He's obviously spent a lot of money on the garden, but probably gets many things at wholesale cost due to his profession. He had an amazing area with nothing but shaggy shield fern; quite a design statement. Although he has over 200 japanese maple cultivars, Erica didn't focus just on them (she is so good at working around the obsession while still covering it). Even though the show is dated 2007, I'm sure it was filmed in 2006 ... no evidence of a drought in HIS yard. Yes, I'm looking forward to more shows this year. And I love that so many of them are in the southeast.

Nancy, people from the HGTV gardening forums have been emailing and complaining on the forums for the past few years about that. Apparently they just don't care. They used to have really great gardening programs, but for whatever reason, they've really cut down. Gardening by the Yard is the only one I care to watch. The last time I tried emailing them, the form said you had to give your complete address and phone number. Why do they need that!? If they have to get a hold of me, they can just email me. It's a real shame how that channel has gone down hill with gardening. I've heard that on the DIY channel they have a lot of gardening programs, but I can't get that one without getting several other channels I don't want...and I would have to pay more. So I'll just stick with gardening forums. Kat

Have to confess that the 'gardener guy's' goofiness is a bit much sometimes, but his knowledge and enthusiasm are great. He really knows and loves plants and gardening, and gives lots of information between the occasional spasms. I don't care that much about some of his topics--I really don't care much about how to have a better lawn for instance--but I know lots of people do, and as long as he covers some of the topics I'm interested in I'll keep watching. I also agree with shows at 6:00 being awfully early for me, and I agree with what someone called 'moving the furniture around' shows. Some of them are more interesting now that we're working on a lot of projects around the house--or I should say my son is!--but they barely deserve to call themselves 'house and GARDEN tv' when they do so little with gardens.
