2009 Augusta, ohio 2nd annual plant swap

Place: Augusta, is in NE Ohio on route 9, in-between Minerva and Summitville, in Carroll County. The swap will be held at the FiremanÂs Park on Andora Rd NE, you need to turn north at the Strawberry Festival Banner, the park is just up the road.

Time: 10.00 AM

This is our first swap. We have had a lot of interest in this and have been placing flyers in the surrounding areas. Anyone close enough that would like to join us, welcome. Come, meet new people, make new friends, enjoy yourselves, and get some beautiful plants. Please e-mail me if you have any questions.

1. Trading Materials: plants, well rooted cuttings potted up, bulbs, shrubs, nice sized seedlings, garden material, lawn or garden ornaments, gardening implements etc. Please mark all plants with name or if name is unknown mark the care needed on a tag.

2. Plan For The Day:

10:00 to 12:00 Â people arrive, sign-in with the number of plants they have, get their name

tag. Place plants in viewing and swap area, they will be marked with plants varieties. Visit

with the other traders, and view the plants.

Noon: Lunch, after lunch door prizes will be awarded

1:00 Â Swap begins

Round 1 1-plant choice

Round 2 1-plant choice

Round 3 pick two plants

Round 4 pick three plants etc.

3. Door Prizes: We will have door prizes. If you would like to donate anything for a door prize

it would be appreciated. A donation can be any thing you would enjoy receiving yourself. A special plant you would like to share, a craft item, something you think a gardener would appreciate.

4. Pot Luck Lunch: Please bring a dish to share with a serving utensil. Please bring you own

beverage with personal plates and silverware. There will be a donation jar if you would like to help with the cost of the shelter rental.

We will have a table with brochures from the area cottage businesses. Some of you may enjoy visiting them while in our area. Carroll County has a wealth of interesting places and things to see and visit. There will be no selling of any kind.

If you are looking for a special plant, ask here. Someone might have one they are willing to share or they may be willing to make a private trade.

We had our first swap last year and over 50 people attended. We had loads of fabulous food and lots of beautiful plants and great fellowship with friends. I hope everyone can make it again this year. Twila

I think that was the coldest and wettest swap I've ever attended -- but it was as much fun as any I've been to! Big ups to the organizers -- excellent job! I think the "side trades" table was particularly inspired -- it saved a lot of time running around looking for a lot of people you'd never actually met, while still giving you the *option* of running around and looking for people if you wanted to! Wonderful plants, wonderful people, and would whoever made that lovely red apple dish give me the recipe? If you didn't get any, they were thick apple rings, maybe 1/2 or so; bright red, and sweet. But not sticky, syrupy sweet, just straight up apple taste. I thought they were going to be the standard 'apples in syrup with cinnamon red hots' but they were fantastic! Thanks all for a lovely time - now, who's going to plant these things for me?

Jo Ann: solar powered lights as a door prize??? oh wow how cool! i sure hope i win those! what a great idea! Beverly: i am glad you like my signature saying. i dont know who wrote it but i just feel that it says it all!!! how else can you justify buying a pot of asclepsias in april or some virginia bluebells in the summer? my husband thinks i have lost my marbles when i bring home what looks like just a pot of dirt! lol i just finished potting up 31 plants and i have loads more to go plus several plants for direct trades too! but you know what? i feel great! i keep thinking of more and more things that someone might enjoy and its a great way to thin out some of my plants! I am really getting excited and it BETTER NOT RAIN THAT DAY either! so Margie and i were thinking about what time we have to get up that morning to get there around 10 and since i live about 1.5 hrs from her and she is closer to columbus than i am i am thinking i will have to get up at the crack of dawn along with the dern roosters!!! They are calling for sunshine on the 4th of June, keeping my fingers crossed as this phenomenon has been rare this spring in Ohio. I can't wait to see everyone this year. I am bringing Hostas, June Moon and Paradigm, maybe some small ones like hydon sunset and Lemon Lime. Also heucheras and tricyrtis (toadlilies) I might have a hosta "Ice Cream" also. I am bring a hugh start of Paradigm for a door prize, and I have a couple of other door prizes to bring I think people will enjoy. If you could donate a door prize it would be appreciated, we are trying to keep up our door prize part of the swap as everyone seem to enjoy that part of the swap. I know we have some special one coming again this year. I also want to thank the people who donated last year, we had some very special and awesome door prizes. Hi Beverly, To answer your Q?, I did go to Darby Creek Nursery,me and my friends went there after the swap. But they didn't have a good sale like they did last fall.We left there almost empty handed.But we had stopped at Shroders off of 71 on our way to the swap and before we got to the swap. They have some really good sales on their plants.That's where we bought most of our plants that day. On our way home we stopped at Seely's. I ended up buying 4 Hostas and Jacquie and her sister Bobbi bought 4 or 5. And we were loaded for bear.LOL I was in so much pain I couldn't hardly stand it. But It was fun.I couldn't unload my car and lucky for me I have some very able friends who don't mind helping or doing for me.Oh!! If I only Had My Legs Back!!! What's this Beverly about you having a Hosta Sale on the 30th? Did you sell them for a business or are they your own??Diane had emailed me with the info and date, But I didn't get the message till after the day of your sale. Sorry I missed it. Shasta we will miss you and hope you can make it next year.
Cathy, enjoyed talking to you guys last year. I hope you can make it. Just had surgery and can't get out into the garden but I did get some things potted up before hand.

Shasta, I did take a few, I just have to do better this year.
I still have a week before I can bend and two weeks before I can lift but thankfully I got a lot of weeding done before and did get some plants potted up. The Japanese named iris are still selling around 10 on the internet, so I thought that might make a nice door prize. Just keep looking everyday, that all I can do right now. I have columbine and forget-me-not coming up everywhere. We had a frost here last night so I guess it is a good thing that I didn't have my plants out yet.

The frost missed us.

Hope you're feel better, Twila. I know you'll really be ready to get back in the garden when you're feeling better.

Ralph will be bringing a nice door prize. We're working on a large flowerbed for the local historic society and we need plants for full sun. I'd especially like some bee balm if anyone has some to spare.

Cathy, I will see if I can come up with some bee balm. I love the fact that we had so many people bringing such awesome door prizes last year. I can't wait to see what you guys are going to bring.

I was at the swap last year,my first and had so much fun. Great door prizes and lots of them. Great food and lots of that too. I have 17 pots already ,will have more .

Hi , was at the plant exchange last year , was Great, Have about 15 pots and counting ready to go. Just got off the phone to some one else that is coming with a lot of different hosta's. Love them my self, never have enough.
now the food , people still talking about food last year . Gardener,s can cook. Hope to see a lot of you there again . More later , Jeanie
