If Anyone is Wondering About the Old Fixer?

Just in case anyone is wondering how the old fixer upper house is coming along....

I've done a little updating to the website, still lot to update for was it done but this will give you a good idea on what we've been up to!

I made a new garden and will post that over in the Gallery and thought some folks that do not visit conversation might like to see some of the progress on the place. Hope it is ok to post it here...

Wow, what a lot of work! The front door with sidelights is gorgeous and I really like the dentil, too.

Are you doing most of the work yourselves? I've been up on scaffolding a few times around here. I always think - please, no earthquakes today. lol!

Let me know when you get to the kitchen redo. I have lots of advice, most learned through my own blood, sweat and tears. ; )

I was I was!!!! Been wondering for awhile how it was coming. I love the detail work, I wish we could fast forward to the finished :) How is the inside coming along? You have come so far already. I bet the neighbors are tickled..and the house is soooooooooooooo lucky YOU bought it...someone with respect and passion for the "elderly" :)

Sorry you got hit by storm Susie -loves -roses. I've been through 2 quakes so I know it is rough living with the messes. Rather have quakes tho, than water running through or house flying through the air. So sad especially the towns that got flattened. At least you are not alone in the neighborhood, helps to talk to each other & gets you through it better because"outsiders" don't have a clue what you are going through unless it has happened to them. Hope you are straightened out on BP medicine. Anyone on it should have their own BP machine/kit? so you can take it at home. Good way to find out if salt is a factor also. Take BP couple hours after salty meal & see if it shoots up each time, get rid of salt on table & check foods before you buy them. Frozen veggies can have almost no sodium or up to 1 day's worth in 1 serving, especially if they have a sauce. Jamie Oliver came to L.A. trying to get better food in schools- they don't want it. My kids collected wonderful fruit other kids wouldn't eat at their schools & that was 30 yrs ago. Now even private school my GK's go to have caved in & it's Pizza,McDonald's etc,all week. Sad,young kids have high BP now. Hope your roof isn't gone, can you use your kitchen? Good Luck with workers & hope you know some or they will really charge an arm and a leg! Jan

Patricia, You have me laughing about that frog! Ok-so here is the thing..I am very familiar with the freeze thaw thing which is what we usually have here-very much like what you get only for longer..the odd thing is that this time it didn't happen like that at all. We had gradually decreasing temps from the 30's down to the very low teens and then the one 5 degree night then gradually increasing temps with a TON of snow the whole time. My one surviving cane was flat on the ground. The rest froze-black-obviously frozen. I was astonished. I have had plenty of 10-11 degrees winters. If the same thing hadn't happened to Alexander Guirault I would think it was the placement. Well chalk one up for experience.... patricia

Rhianna, that was two years ago. LOL!! I don't even remember this. Wouldn't ot be nice to hear from the person who received these just to know how they were doing? Wow! You're in luck, though. I have since moved to the Caribbean (US) and can actually offer you pups from the same types of plants. Where are you? I.can only ship within the US. I have a variety of cactus & sicculents. Hi O F (as in "Old Fart") I can testify that Caroline and family are genial and generous hosts, or at least, they were such, about six or so years ago. As to whether her/their activities include stalking, murdering with axes or other similar activities, I can't testify, as I didn't follow them all the time for any length of time. I'd be inclined to say that my experience with them tends to make me conclude that they wouldn't consider such ... ... but you know how may times someone who's later found to have been doing scandalous things ... ... were considered by all in their community who knew them to be fine, upstanding members of that community, incapable of such malfeasance. Such doesn't happen very often, actually ... and fortunately. Plus ... on the province-wide radio phone-in show today, the topic under discussion was whether folks had ever been taken for a ride in more than matters of the heart, in some of the on-line dating services. An official who deals with such things says that much of it is conducted by large gangs who make millions by developing elaborate schemes to defraud people, while breaking their hearts, which they use on at least thousands of people. And they feel that the visible portion is only a tip of the iceberg, as many who are defrauded in such a manner are too embarrassed to admit it ... to anyone, let alone officialdom. Back to the topic at hand ... I think that there's a better chance that one of Caroline's beloved canines would/might pull a fast one on you than that she would: you know how canines lower on the totem pole like to test the boundaries, now and again? Thanks! Diana we've been think what we want, guess we will take a sketch of it with us this winter and figure how we want it put back together. It is not a huge room. Think we will steel some space from the barn for the fridge.

Please! offer all the advice you have! We want to get it right the first time!

We had two excellent contractors do the professional work outside. The did an excellent job. We are doing the paint and paper type stuff and I'm demo'ing the kitchen! I just did a post for that.....

Keesha the neighbors are thrilled we are fixing it up! I've gotten most of the wall paper off and done a LOT of cleaning, still lots to do!

Definitely use Diana to bounce ideas off of. That woman has impeccable taste and really knows her way around a kitchen re-model.

You are going to have a real show place when you are done! Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
