Dear Garden Friends,

ItÃs time for a Spring Perennial Plant Swap and Pot Luck - so come along - bring your extra plants, your dish to pass, bring a friend with his/her plants and join in the fun!ÃÃThis is a wonderful chance to share your passion for gardening, meet other gardeners from the area, have a delicious meal and acquire some new perennials. Please come with a happy and sharing heart.ÃÃBring photos of your gardens, flowers, etc.ÃÃif you like!ÃÃ

DATE: Saturday, 21 May, 2005

TIME: 11:00am - 2:00pm

PLACE: BYRON CENTER, MICHIGAN

TRADING MATERIALS: perennial plants, shrubs, well rooted cuttings potted up thriving seedlings, bulbs, garden ornaments/crafts, gardening books, bundled garden magazines. PLEASE MARK ALL PLANT MATERIALS WITH THE PLANT NAME AND CARE REQUIRED.

This is for PERENNIALS ONLY - NOT for ANNUALS or HOUSE PLANTS (if you want to trade those privately please make those arrangements ahead of time in emails and take care of it before or after the perennial swapping.)

POT LUCK: Please bring a dish to pass, with serving untensils, and your own beverage,ÃÃbe sure to mark your serving spoons etc. with your name.ÃÃPaper plates, napkins, cups & plastic silverware will be provided.

DOOR PRIZES: If you would like to donate something for a door prize, please feel free to bring it along - the more the merrier and last year we had many wonderful items eg: plants, gardening books, vases, bird houses, bird feeders and garden ornaments.

THE PLAN FOR THE DAY

11-NOON - people arrive, sign in with name and number of plants, get name tag, put plants in viewing/swap area, put out dish to pass, visit with other gardeners, start viewing plants.

NOON - have lunch

1:00PM - Swap begins

DOOR PRIZES will be drawn throughout the swap time.

After swap - more visiting, pack up, goodbyes.

This will be a Round Robin Swap.

Round #1-2 - everyone select one plant.

Round #3-4 - everyone select two plants.

Round #5-6 - everyone select 3 plants and so on and so on.

This way everyone gets a chance to get some of the plants they really have on eye on. This works well and people have been very pleased in the past at other swaps. Everyone should be able to take home as many plants as they bring.

TIPS FOR THE DAY:ÃÃbring a folding chair (always needed), a table for your plants (or you can put them on the ground), a box or container to put your new plants in after swapping (label with your name) & bring and mark your serving utensils for your dish to pass.

PLEASE EMAIL with RSVP so we can get a head count.

Hi, I am south of Niles on 3rd Street, S of Ontario rd. What kinds of plants do you want for swap? very young or older? I have never gone to one, but would love to.
If I am not back to work then. I had angioplasty on the 29th of April, w/ 4 stents put in my heart... I am 65. Gardening is limited at this time outside.
I play at propagating and violets do great in my south window.I potted some up tonight that have a their first leaves. I also ordered jasmine from Calif, they arrived Sat.
Klugs Cottage Gardens midway to Berrien Springs belongs to my daughter&hubby. Great plants there and good variety. Varners, Sheltons & God's Green Earth all good. I look for broken pieces to propagate.
Hubby needs to use the phone, email me...

just wanted to know if anyone can send me an address of where the plant trade is going to be held in byron center on may 21st .

I am getting things potted up for the swap. I am focusing on bringing a smaller number of larger trades this year. I stopped by a nursery to find some cheap pots and talked them into selling me some of their 6" square pots (probably about 1/2 gallon ones) for $.20 each. Last year Oakland Park had nice 4" ones for $.09 each, but they didn't carry them this year. So far I have rhubarb, chocolate mint, lemon balm, spiderwort, lamb's ear, evening primrose, Golden Tiara hosta, misc. var. hosta, and Michaelinsis daisy potted up into 1/2 gallon or larger pots. I also have quite a few small starts of Penny's Worth daylily, a nice little daylily with yellow flowers. It kind of looks like a miniature version of Happy Returns. I also have plenty of tomatoes. I have about 60 varieties started this year. Some I only have a few of, but many of them I will have extras of to bring to the swap. We will be potting up some other things to bring as well. We usually bring the dogs into Columbus with us when we visit. But I don't see how they will fit in the van with all of the plants. It looks like we will have to leave them with friends for the weekend. We are looking forward to seeing everyone on the 15th. James

Hi folks! Granny!!!!! Of course you count!!!!! I'll take pictures of the Mail Pouch "barn" and other stuff so Lee can show you on his computer. Beverly hasn't even seen them yet! I broke my little finger and am waiting to see the hand specialist to be sure I didn't damage any tendons or ligaments. I hope not. This nine fingered typing is for the birds! I keep trying to use the splinted finger and typing really weird stuff! I also pulled the muscles of my chest badly enough that they thought that I might have a broken rib. Sheesh! I'm still going to find a way to pot up those last few plants! There is NO WAY I'll let if spoil my once in a lifetime trip with the boys. We're going snorkeling, para sailing, catamaran sailing, swimming with the dolphins and even some time for just laying on the beach! No heavy lifting for me until after the cruise! I'm overwhelmed with all the stuff I need to do in the next two weeks so I'd better go make another list and start checking things off! Barbi, was that you who wanted the baby arborvitae? I'll save them for you. I did dig up the campion that seeded itself in my stone path before I hurt myself. (*again*) They are a nice biennial. Mine are white but Beverly has some rose ones so who knows what color the seeds the bees made! I have Solomon's seal that needs dividing and some salvia that seeded into my stone path too. The candy tuft jumped the path but it might have to wait 'til fall. I can't wait to see Betty and Ron all the way from Michigan. I keep killing my forget-me-nots! Wonder what I'm doing to them? I hope everyone is doing well and my penchant for injuring myself is not "catching"! ~~Mimi

Hey Alison, 4 0r 5 in a pack of tomatoes will be fine with me, I'll just try to get them on a trade!!! I'm good at killing plants too.... You not only do braille, but eat sausage, corn, beer, (my kinda girl), I was wondering???? what order was this? latin, beer, label, then you label, beer, latin, then you laabbeell, beeerrr, llaattinnnn, then eat the latin corn, drink the sauage beer, and then you label the latin beer, and beer the label latin, Beeeeeeerrrrrrr, laaabbeeel, Hic, hic, Latttiiinnnnnnnn. I just wanna be able to do this right! I gotta go lay down,,,,, hehe, can hardly wait til saturday hic...
