For the 'narrow' lovers...I really like this one too...

....I didn't breed particularly for narrow form, nor do I try to get very wide form for patterns. But sometimes mother nature takes things in her own hands. In this case she did a great job. I have a couple of narrows which I intend to cross together this year...I think daylily lovers would like to have the different forms in their display beds. Bob {{gwi:822123}}

This one has the look of "Paper Butterfly" written on it's pretty eye and the shape too. I do like the color and the etching is so nice. Yeap, I'd grow this one, too. Thanks Bob and keep em coming, Mona

Gorgeous! I agree Mona, I see Paper Butterfly there too. Also, it reminds me of some pictures that I have seen of Fancy Face. Could you tell us who the parents are? It's definitely a Keeper.

At a guess, Weeks declines to carry it because they have MANY roses to choose from whose patents they own. To carry an Austin rose, they have to pay a huge % -- he requires a larger cut than any other hybridizer. I'm actually surprised that Rogue Valley and Heirloom carry it, but then, Heirloom (under the former owners) had a long-term relationship with Austin. Oh, no -- WAIT! It's out of patent. Anyhow, it is a rose that will grow more quickly if budded, so I would choose to plant it that way, if I could. Tho in a warmer climate, it might come on more quickly than here. Note: We have two budded plants, and a younger own-root started from one of them. Whether budded or own-root, I would advise against a lot of pruning of this particular cultivar. IT DOESN'T LIKE IT! 'Chateau de Clos Vougeot,' the parent it seems to me to be most like, is a Pernetiana, after all. And that raises the specter of blackspot. I wonder if that might not be a problem, in a place where blackspot pressure is high. Jeri

How narrow is too narrow: toilet room and vanity area?

We have a small toilet room in our master and one of our secondary baths and I would have sworn the they were less than 3' wide because they're narrow, but I measured and the master is 3'x 7'2" and the other is 38" x 5'8". The set up is the same in both: toilet centered along the narrow wall with window behind high above the toilet and the door is on the longer wall on the opposite end and it opens in and lays flat along the opposite narrow wall. The door opening in is perfect, I wouldn't want it any other way, and the dimensions are fine, but definitely would NOT want it any narrower. The door would be a problem in the 2nd bath was any shorter or the opening was not on the side and away from the toilet.

I absolutely love ginger, but I wasn't able to post to this before. I also love ginger flowers and have several types of ginger in my yard now. The blue ginger is blooming right now (see link below), but I also have red and white gingers, none of which are edible, but some of the flowers have very nice fragrances that are quite unique. As for edible ginger, I keep a jar of ginger paste (from an Indian market) that I use in soups, marinades, and stir fries, but not desserts. For desserts, I use ginger that I keep in the freezer. I should probably grow edible ginger. I bought ginger snaps at TJ's last week-end (along with some other more decadent cookies), but I think I should have made them myself. They were good but not quite gingery enough. I don't have any dried ginger. Lars Here is a link that might be useful:

I LOVE, LOVE that, I like the inverted petals. ( or what ever the technical term is) I tend to like the unusual forms though.

Bob, you are absolutely right. I love the variety, all my beds are mixed, dips and tets, rounds and spiders, colors too. It makes for a nice effect. I once thought about sorting everything, but in the minds eye decided I wouldn't enjoy the picture near as much.

I do see Paper Butterfly but this one has something extra. I love the green throat and the patterns on the sepals.

I had to look up the parentage myself, since all I use is a number system. The pedigree reads like this (Texas Kaliedescope #5 seedling) x (Fancy Face x Dragons' Eye). So seeing Fancy Face in it took a good eye. Just don't tell anyone what my crosses are! Thanks. Bob

Bob, do I win anything by guessing Fancy Face in the lineage LOL? I have wanted FF for two years and finally bought it this spring. It's unlikely that I'll see it bloom this growing season but I can wait. Love the colors in FF and in your seedling. Great job Bob!
