Those were lovely! I have grown Love Lies Bleeding in a pot before, and liked them. I have never seen or heard of the ones in those photos, but they look like they should be posted here. I want to try some of those next year!

Here are a few pics of 'Intense Purple' one of which I'll never need sow again! These particular ones will self-sow like no tomorrow. I had big patches out there this past spring that were carpet thick...spent LOTS of time hoeing and thinning out on hands and knees! These all came up on the perimeter of the beds on the east side of the house which is gravel road! This is in one of the beds on that side where melon was planted...a gazillion volunteers here as well! Volunteered here next to volunteer Verbena bonariensis Here is Love-lies-Bleeding in 2004. By the time this pic was taken they needed propped up! I only had 1-3 plants volunteer for me the following years. Seed is great for breads, cereal, ect. Nutty good flavor :)

It's beautiful, easy to grow, and it readily reseeds. It blooms for me in summer and fall, but I don't even start the seeds until my spring flowers are done. You only have to buy the seeds once, but I imagine if you plant more than one variety you will get crosses instead of the original colors. The stuff gets HUGE here- seven or eight feet tall sometimes. It looks lovely planted in sets of three plants side by side. The plants often need staking. My favorite is the chartreuse variety, but I also like the Hopi Red Dye and the traditional dark pink. I have seen photos with the newer amber colored variety which is really stunning, but I have not tried it.

I started some Amaranthus(red) from seed this spring and was able to get one seedling to actually grow. I was inspired when I saw them in Brenda's Red Bed.

Those pictures are amazing...such a beautiful plant.

I grew 2 kinds of Amaranthus this year. Velvet curtains and Autumn shades. Its along the edge of my Monet garden.

I have tried tri-color in the past, but that one just doesn't grow well for me for some reason. The seeds germinate then stay really small. This one may need more hot weather than what we have here.

I grew 'Oeschberg'this year and I really like the purple leaves and flowers. I got seed from Select Seeds and I've linked a photo from their website.
