Put your thinking caps on. This is definitely a test, and it is a trick question. The pix purple should be a little darker, but the light was fading when I took the pix.
You are both half right - or maybe all Right and no Left. The fig on the right is Sals - but remember this is a trick question. The fig on the left is Herman's "Black" Marseilles (or Marseilles VS). They have been similar all summer long, but I had not made the connection till yesterday, that they might actually be the same fig, or very, very related. The only difference is that the Sals tends to have some green at times, and the Marseilles VS is always fully purple. Both are nearly seedless, or very small seeded. The Sals has grown slower than the Marseilles.
You are right that they are related, but what i noticed in my climate is that Marseilles Vs has a Large breba crop while Sal's do not.And also Marseilles VS figs are more elongated than Sal's.And the leafes are not identical. Regards
OOOO,Jon:That is great:This is a perfect example of average shape of the two cultivars. Now the diference can be clearly seen.Very well done, thank you.Best Regards
