Another daylily order (the obsession continues!)

I couldn't help myself. I had to place another order that is due to arrive mid-August. If anyone has any of these and can tell me about them (good or bad) I would appreciate it. Thanks! Here's what's coming:

It's funny that I said at the beginning of the season that I had limited space left in my garden. I just keep planting! If need be, I'll just dig myself a new garden!

You will love Ruby Lipstick! such beautiful color! Spiritual Corridor is a perfect, delicate bloom. Those are the only ones I have that you ordered, but there are really some beauties there. I have about ten to place so far...and they will all get placed, yours will too. Those are lovely additions to your already lovely yard!

Fairy Tale Pink is the very first daylily I ever saw in a nursery and I walked toward it from aisles away- I love it. It gets a lot of simultaneous blooms, is fragrant, has a faint shimmer, and is hardy.

Lake Norman Spider does really well for me, too, and I rarely see a bad flower. Both plants I have grown in big containers for 5 years.

Fantasic replies, and made me laugh quite a bit, too. Thanks! Ironically, given the tone of the suggestions, I've been trying to ration my online time because I'm studying for my board exams for my independent license in mental health counseling - which is why I'm just getting back to this. Needless to say, I love the idea of marital compost harmony by each just doing one's own thing. Duh, wonder why I didn't think of that before? It had occured to me already that if one builds a 3-bin composter, one could fill the outer two bins simultaneously for the first round of rotting, and then hopefully dump them in the middle when there's enough less bulk. So we'll try it - his & hers composting. :-) BTW, my hubby now has 1 job offer & other interviews still upcoming, so he's much less stressed. Still, why not try the math vs. hunch experiment - sounds like fun. What's the rough balance between leaves & horse manure, anyway? I was going to fudge it with about 5-6 parts leaves to 1 part manure. Plus whatever weeds I have on hand at the time, which is always tons. Maybe as much as 1 part. Lots in our neighborhood are about an acre, so we're close enough for smell problems, or I wouldn't care in the least if I got it wrong. My veggie garden is in the front yard (best sun), though, so the neighbors already think I'm nuts. ...Meanwhile, I find myself eyeing the vast amount of shredding at work (mental health agencies generate tons of shredded paper) and wondering if it would mess up my pile too much. Actually, I am now eyeing anything and everything and wondering about composting it. P.S. FWIW, I know how to use an abacus - I was fascinated by them as a child. I've seen a slide rule, but I don't know how to use one, though.

Bunkers - that was really neat. I also picked the Dueling Banjos; tight man. I once fell in love with a woman drinking whiskey; I walked into my bar and was the place empty except one woman in a black leather coat sitting alone, drinking whiskey. I sat right next to her and we both (continued) - and then all of a sudden, "wham" she fell backwards off her seat and crashed to the floor. I recently ordered from Smokey's because I could purchase the number of plants needed at a discount (lot of 25 plants). They arrived in good shape but I would say everything was small. However they were, as I said, discounted for the lot size and I didn't have to divide everything. Most of them seems to be doing well, but there are a couple that don't seem to be growing. So if they don't start to grow in a couple weeks I'll contact them and report back on how that goes. I also ordered from a more local farm -- Amador Flower Farm -- and the plants they shipped were very nice and clean, healthy, and are growing strong.

Hi All, Worked in the greenhouse today. Had to spray everything. The aphids are getting bad. Ricky...I can tell you from personal experience it is very difficult to take in a teenager, especially one that the parents are having difficulty dealing with. I don't know that is the case here but I have taken in family members on several occassions and for me it didn't work out. I naively thought if I set ground rules, let them know they were loved, and tried to be involved in what they were doing, and consistent with praise and discipline, that everything would turn out okay. I'm sorry to say that wasn't what happened. But your circumstances may be different. I too praise your desire to help and hope that it does turn out great for your nephew. I ordered from Bluegrass again and they do have a 20% down layaway plan with the rest due in the spring before shippment. They charge $6.00 for the 1st 4 fans (2 DL's)and .25 for every fan after that for shipping. So if you're only planning on ordering 1 or 2 DL's it may not be worthwhile, but after I saw how many daylilies they had at 3.00 each, the shipping was not a problem. Let them know I referred you maybe I'll get a daylily as a bonus. I got a bonus last time I ordered from them, it was their 2004 intro. daylily "Galaxy Explosion". I don't know if they give bonuses with every order or only those over a certain amount. I'm also checking on the links everyone here is giving like Dune Lane and Bayberry Row. Can you tell....I got daylily fever really bad. Jean...is you epiphyllum rick rack? I had 3 different epiphyllum's until we ran out of kerosene in the heater in our greenhouse one night and they froze. If you've got enough can I have a start? I can trade for night blooming cereus (another epiphyllum) or Queens Tears Bromeliad. Both are houseplants here. I'll take photo's if you want. We may have to wait until another warm spell. I think you will like Laura Harwood. It does very well here and attracts attention. I wonder about the Spacecoast for zone 5. Julia has posted on it; maybe she can say more. Beautiful Edgings is both beautiful and vigorous. It is quite tall; does take a lot of room in the garden.

mantis oh - These are being ordered from a Zone 4 garden and are all supposed to be hardy to that zone so me being 5b should be safe. They didn't have very many Spacecoast varieties (maybe 4) and I'm sure it's because most of them wouldn't be hardy in the colder zone.

I used to have JOLYENE NICHOLE but the scapes are really short which I didn't like. Beautiful large flowers though. BEAUTIFUL EDGINGS is just a truely lovely flower and does really well here. I am thinking I have REAL WIND but having a mental block and just can't remember.

But I am not surprised you got more daylilies. Getting more daylilies is the right choice :-)) You can always dig up more lawn and expand the garden beds.

I think you made some very good choices.

RUBY SPIDER is very impressive with its large blooms

FAIRY TALE PINK has that wonderful veining. Some people don't care fore it, but I love it.

Vickie - Thanks for the picture of Ruby Spider. It is beautiful! Certainly an attention getter.

Rita - I knew that Jolyene Nichole had short scapes so I am going to put it at the front of one of the borders.

You made some excellent choices. Fairy Tale Pink is so lovely, and Beautiful Edgings is one of the best cultivars I have in my garden. It did take it a couple of years to come into its own, but it was well worth the wait.

Jason, I don't have a big collection, but BEAUTIFUL EDGINGS is my favorite. It is breathtakingly beautiful, increases well, tall but not too tall, and is rain and heat resistant. I like her way better than some of the pricier ones.
