I managed to make grow am few figs from UC Davis, despite the fig Mosaic.

I had excellent tasting fruits, from Blk Ischia,Barnisotte, and good tasting ones from DFIC 17 Brn.Trk.

Now i Have a new one fruitting,Dfic 30 !!!.

It has three figs of very large size ,80 grams and growing!!!!!.

I wonder if anybody else has experience with this variety and how was the taste?.

I did not consumed the three fruits yet because they are not totally ripe, and still pointing up.

I am waiting for them to lower themself in a vertical position so i know thy are done.

It does look promissing.

This is a cutting i rooted in Spring 2006.

Thanks anticipated for any details.

    Herman,

I rooted DFIC 30 (Genoa) this year. It was one of only three cuttings that survived the weather we had in Houston this year. It is a measly little thing.

I bought a White Genoa I found at a nursery a couple of months ago. I'll compare them when they ripen fruit. Also, while at my uncle's funeral in Genoa a couple of weeks ago, one of my family members brought me back a cutting from a local fig tree. It may or may not be the original Genoa fig, I really do not know much about it.

    Herman,

Your spare UCD30 Genoa that you gave me is doing
well. Robust upright growth with four 1"+ figlets.
Not sure if they will ripen, maybe it is time
to try the oil thing. So far they do not
look similar to my (EL) Marseilles though.
Also I have another Genoa from Belleclare. No figlets.
Leaves are different and with strange twig growth, has
2 shoots that grew horizontal for a long while and then
tips turned upwards. Must be many figs from Genoa, Italy...

    Label reads:
Dark Green Genoa, Green-Dark Red Center.

Hi Fortisi and others:Today We consumed 2 Genoa Figs.
It is Pink inside,of mediocre Flavor and sugar.
    We gave it 5 out of ten,on a scale 1 to 10.
We suspect lack of heat units needed for decent fruit quality here in NJ.
It is an atractive large wht ,commom fig that doesn't drop, and i'd like to know how the same variety will produce in San Diego,as Jon (Pitangadiego) have one too.
I suspect it is going to be a lot better there.
As far as i can see fig trees that produces very large fruits, have a problem,on east coast, because of lack of adeqvate Heat,to get them to ripe properly, and acumulate maximum sugar.
So far i only have one variety with large and sweet and flavorfull fruits i like,(about 70 grams).
And That is Unknown #5 from Malta,Via George M.
    Thanks George.
