Thank you bonsaist! I appreciate the info. Sorry I'm late getting back to you on this. I don't have a space such as you described to plant the trees so I hope what I did will be alright. I dug a 3 ft hole in diamater aprox. Placed the tree in. Put in fresh soil. Watered with a root enhancer. Placed landscape fabric over the area and tucked under the soil on the edges. Put cocoa shells over the fabric. I've watered 2 times in the past 2 days now trying to get them established. They are in my "orchard" area to the east of my apple and cherry saplings. I really hope that they survive the winter. If not I will be incredibly upset. Thank you again, Keith

More on English Brown turkey. After reading and being told that Hanc Mathies had obtained his English Brown Turkey from Miller Nurseries in New York, I was about to place an order with them for their English Brown Turkey, when I was informed by a well known fellow fig collector and seller that Miller Nurseries does not grow their own Brown Turkey fig. But, they buy them from Empire Nursery. So, after learning of that I decided not to order a Brown Turkey from Miller nursery. I'm thinking that more then likely Miller might receive a different strain of Brown Turkey from Empire each year. I'm also thinking that Hanc Mathies simply lucked out with the Brown Turkey he purchased from Miller. I think that may beone of many the reasons for so much confusion as to whether or not Brown Turkey is a good tasting fig or not. Is it possible that Brown Turkey fig is a fig that is easy to mutate. That after hundreds of years it has so many varients that there truely are really great tasting Figs on some Brown Turkey plants and yet really bad tasting figs on other Brown Turkey plants??? My interest in Hanc Mathies's Englsih Brown Turkey comes from the fact that I'm looking for figs that are very cold hardy, and I have read that it is recomended for planting out side as far north as 4A. I would imagine that is with winter protection. But, yet there are a lot of us fig people in very cold areas, who would welcome having such a cold hardy fig. Until some how we can build up stock for cuttings from a English Brown Turkey that can be verified as coming from Hanc Mathies's tree we will not know if it's the real Hanc Mathies English Brown Turkey or not. Does any one out there have yet a Hanc Mathies confirmed English Brown Turkey fig that is old enough to take cuttings from or small rooted plants?. I'm willing to trade/purchase. My Conadria is young, but it looks very health, and strong. It has a fat 2 inch diameter trunk and growth is very vigourous. I pinched like crazy the entire season. The Brown Turkey has a similar size trunk and is 10 feet tall, and 6 feet wide. That thing grows fast. I'm not in desparate need of space right now, so I'll give it two more seasons. Right now, I still have my mom's yard to work with if I need to plant more trees. But my moms yard is mostly all sand, and from what I've seen in the past, none of the trees grown in that sand seems to grow well. But then again, we rarely ever water area, or add any mulch or fertilizers. So maybe that might be the reason.

We have a 40 year old Meyer lemon tree here.....produces tons of lemons all year long. Our neighbor has an orange tree and a tangerine tree and the people down the street has a fig tree and a quince. The plum tree next door is nearing it's end but we have enjoyed great plums for years.
