RE: Pruning advice for very old potted fig

I've got what I believe is an Italian Honey Fig tree - probably about 25 yrs old, that lived in my parents' dining room for years in a pot in winter and outside in summer (in new england). It's never been pruned. It still produces figs, but they are getting less abundant and less delicious. It obviously needs to be pruned, but I'm not sure what to do given its age, past pruning neglect, and utter lack of knowledge about pruning. It's got lots of curvy, winding branches...it's about 5 feet tall, and I will bring it in to the basement for the winter and let it go dormant. This will be the first winter that it will go into a dark, cool place. For the past 25 years it's been part of the family in a heated, watered environment.

When and how would be the best way to prune?

Also, it's got what look like tiny spider webs or cobwebs clinging to the perimeters of the leaves and branches. What is the best way to get rid of whatever that is?

Any other advice also welcome,

Thank you
