Barely rained despite the promising thunder booming... still have to water tonight. :( But, the cloudy skies kept the daylilies very rich with color and not washed out.

Nice to see your Parhelion has improved so much,Paul! Mine is huge this year! Also,my Wooley Mammoth is really nice this year,too. Island Charm,for me was a bust! Yes, the chairs were moved to the tables-there wasn't dinner, per se, but nibbles available. Once the sun went down, people let their hair down and started dancing, using the lounge and loosening up. This definitely wasn't your typical wedding! But it was exactly what the kids wanted. We did not do many traditional things-my DS walked his sister down the aisle; there was a communal vow to support the couple, the officiant said the Bride may now kiss her Groom. No cake cutting, no garter or bouquet throwing. The kids just wanted a celebration that reflected them, and that is what we had. I didn't realize it, but I guess I DID have the I Dream of Jeanie bottle in mind when I designed the lounge! Inspired by photos of Indian mandaps, this was what i came up with. The whole thing didn't completely meet with my vision, but it came close-and the kids loved it, which was all that mattered to me.

Thanks everyone! We were a little nervous about the seam, but all turned out well. Maryallie...We live in Pennsylvania, about 2 hours east of Pittsburgh...sort of western/cental pa I guess you'd describe it. Anyway, there is a granite dealer about 1 hour east of us in Everette, PA called B.C. Stone. They also have a location in Wilmington, NC according to their website. About 3 years ago, a local cabinet maker mentioned that he used them for his granite; we had never heard of them, but if you're not in the market for granite, you probably wouldn't have. He said he used them other than using Lowes or HD. They do deal direct so I gave them a call. They work with many granite yards, so you can choose from their somewhat limited selection at their shop or go to the various granite yards they deal with, select your stone, and they'll have it brought to their shop for fabrication. We really just got lucky as they are close (about an hour away) and they have a very good reputation. I've read some posts hear in the kitchen forum about them. Best way is to really look around and see who you're comfortable with. Visit their company and see what they do and how they do it. The trick is to work with a company who will "make it right" if anything goes wrong. Doge1959...no the granite does not go up the wall. We considered it, but decided against it. It ended up we couldn't do it anyway as we got two slabs, but the slabs were small and we had very limited material to work with and wouldn't have been able to go up the wall anyway. I posted awhile back when we got the slabs but may post again for backsplash ideas. I thought I wanted glass but don't want to constantly be cleaning it every time I see a water spot on it. What would you folks recommend? Should I stick to something simple as to not compete with the granite? Simple white or cream subway? Our cabinets are cherry our granite, of course, lots of shades of green, and our walls a golden/tan color.

Your front yard gardens are looking really good. My favorite is MALAYSIAN MARKETPLACE. I have it here also and I know it is as lovely as your picture.

My favorite photo is the one of Lady Neva and your children. All three are beautiful! Your shade bed is so well done! You have a nice variety of plants there. I especially like the astilbes, the heucheras and the hydrangea.

mantis - no help here. I'm the only one weeding and mulching. The shade bed doesn't get many weeds at all and the side sun bed is pretty filled in so not much room for weeds to grow.
However, my new bed in the back (did not post pics of it yet) took me 4 hours to weed in spring! I wanted to cry!

Thanks guys! It's not easy since I have 2 jobs and 3 kids and I just had to beg my husband to stake the tomatoes. I've been out till 10pm at night weeding and mulching and moving things around a few times last week. I'm so tired.

MALAYSIAN MARKETPLACE is beautiful, and I love the combination of TANGERINE HORSES with the Russian Sage. Those two colors look so pretty together to me.

Malaysian Marketplace is wonderful, love that color. I almost bought Tangerine Horses last year at the nursery, passed by, then went back later for it & was gone of course. I'm watching to see if they get it again, but not yet. My Lady Neva has never been that huge! Your garden beds look so nice, I enjoy seeing what other people grow. The coreopsis is huge.
