I still don't have any dayliles blooming yet, but scapes are appearing everywhere! .. so I'm amazed at whoever is at peak bloom .. so here are some of my spring pictures.

You have some beautiful flowers to enjoy while you are waiting for the daylilies to bloom. I love the peony tree. You have a lovely place. It looks so neat and peaceful. Thanks for sharing.

Your garden is lovely. I was amazed to see the tulips as tulips have been done here for a very long time.

Oath, I'd love to see pics when your Leda blooms. She looks so pretty. Olga, I have bs in my garden to, it doesn't bother me or the roses too much. They just drop their leaves and regrow new ones. There are only 3 roses in my garden that get totally covered. It doesn't bug me enough to SP them though. Melissa, thank you for the warning about AdS, now if he struggles or dies, I will know it's not me. Robert, I have noticed we have similar taste. I don't post alot, but I read almost every day. If I remember correctly, didn't you order alot of them from Sequioa? That's where alot of mine are coming from. I hate to see nurseries close, it's just sad. I wasn't going to order but a few this year, but when I found out they were closing, that changed the plan quickly.

independent brown branches is probably shipping damage .. anywhere from grower to your yard .. if a watering problem.. look for it being off color over the whole plant ... is wouldnt be separate little patches .. just snip those out with pruning shears .. ken

As you have experienced from life outside Chicago, rose growing in Spain will be a totally different and hopefully more fulfilling experience for cutting roses. I'll wipe the drool off my keyboard and give you a general sense of growth patterns for the roses I grow among your list, since I grow or have grown most of them that are accessible here (never heard of Liparfum but it sounds like it would be good cut). Roses that will probably be tall for you (which is more than "tall" was in Chicago): Frederick Mistral Queen of Sweden (like Lily said, very narrow growth habit) St. Cecilia Abraham Darby (though it's wildly variably here - mine never topped knee height but a friend across town has a very bushy 6X6' plant there) Roses that will probably be relatively short for you: Lady of Shalott Solero Purple Lodge (wider than tall, grows in sprawl pattern) Princess A. of Kent (but it has long canes and loves to sprawl) I have grown the following in part sun/part shade and they don't bloom as often but tolerate it OK (notably all Austins and shrubs, HTs like sun): Queen of Sweden St. Cecilia Abraham Darby Lady of Shalott Best/most frequent bloomers for me: Lady of Shalott Solero St. Cecilia Princess A of Kent (though young and still gaining her footing) I haven't grown: A Whiter Shade of Pale, Alabaster, Artemis, J.W. von Goethe, Liparfum. The ones I haven't listed above were either marginally hardy for me, relatively new (e.g. Wollerton Old Hall), or medium height and OK bloom for me (e.g. The Pilgrim). Obviously things will differ in your zone, but that's my experience. Looks like you're going to have a lot of fun, and we want pictures of course when they get good and settled in. Cynthia

It is is going into it's third year. So last year was it's second year. By the fall it was maybe 4 feet high x 3 feet wide. I did have to move it this spring, due to a yard project. So hopefully it likes it's new spot. Exact same sun position, I moved it from the backyard to the frontyard, but on the same side of a fenceline. Tried to do it before it broke dormancy. Looks like it was ok with the move, as it is budding up now.

Isn't it funny how different the areas are in regard to what is blooming. You have really lovely flowers. I love that deep red especially.

Thank you for your beautiful spring pictures. How long did it take your solomon's seal to become such a nice clump? I have the variegated one and it has been increasing, but has a way to go before it looks like yours. Christine

Ellie ... the second from last picture is a spring blooming anenome.

Christine ... that Solomon Seal is huge this year! And I gave soem away too. It's been there 6 or 7 years now.

I have more pictures I'll try to post tonite that have the poppies blooming. That tree peony is my favorite spring bloom.

You have a lovely garden, Pam. My daylilies aren't blooming yet, either, so I have to come here to get my "fix." Your tree peony is wonderful. I've wanted to try one of those for some time, but our new yard is very open and exposed, and borderline zone 5/4 (CNY), so I'm not sure if I should even try one.

Laurel ... those gardens are very open and exposed too. the winds come out of the back pasture, across the pond, and through those gardens. No wimpy plants for me!

Your yard is lovely. Love the tree peony. We saw some at the Biltmore House Gardens years ago, always wanted one. You're lucky to have so much space to plant...The pond/farm picture is a great picture! SARAH

Glad you all like my purple barn ... my retired dairy farmer neighbor couldn't believe I'd paint the barn purple, but I did.

Sarah, I have 20 acres ... I've stopped planting new beds because I can only take care of so many ... but I keep planting trees and bushes ... the pasture on the other side of the pond used to be for horses, now I have miniature donkeys and they don't need all that space, so I'm creating my own arboretum .. and planting many interesting trees int hat back pasture.

I have planted:
Gingko
Variegated maple
Red Maple
Cleveland pear
Locust
Dawn redwood
And a couple more I can't remember ...

Love the farm next door and the backyard pond and all the garden shots. You have an amazing property and so beautiful. Great setting and great gardens. Love it all. I would just love to wander around your yard and look at all the views.
