Oxancle, the article which I have referred, isn't about the picture. In my opinion this article is not interesting, it is regarding a dispute between two Spanish regions (Ibiza -another Balearic island- and Valencia) about the origin of Bourjassot fig, both say that their regions are the origin of this variety. it really is a stupid politic dispute without interest. Surely, the real origin of Bourjassot is other. Gorgi, it is a Ficus Carica tree, but I don't know the variety. The Balearic islands are small in size but they are very rich in fig varieties, a lot of them are autochthonous. For example, it is said that Black Mission is originally from Balearic islands. On the other hand, may be you are right and those legs aren't trunks but wooden supports. Maybe you remember the picture of the Roscoff fig (Roscoff is a French village). This fig was cut down in 1987 and it had a canopy surface of 6,500 square foot (yes, six thousand and five hundred, it isn't an error). More information here: The fig of Roscoff

this spring I planting a 4 foot black mission twig that was rooted and only had a single limb. the base is only about 1" in diameter. It has grown up to about 6' now and has leafed out nicely. Problem it is it now end of August I have have not seen any fruit. the main branch below the first limb has many nodules but no growth. How do I prune this back to stimulate lower limb growth so that it bushes out and produces in the spring? If I cut off the upper part of the main trunk, can I replant the portion that I cut off? If there was a chance it was fmv then it would’ve come from fig bud mites and we can’t let them experience cold enough winters without also killing the trees. All the cuttings I’ve been receiving are cleaned and dipped in sulfur to hopefully reduce any fig bud mites and chances of fmv. I hope your replacement scion is healthy. It might be worth treating for the mites since it seems much more widespread than it used to be after years of fig trades I read up on alot of the Negretta and Unknown Negretta posts in the old f4f. The story was that the original owner of the Unknown Negretta had passed so the introducer wanted to keep The name as is. The owner before passing had called it Piccola Negretta. I’m finally seeing “Piccola” being used with it which is much clearer and better for newbs like me. Eboone the Negretta looks so unique in alot of its characteristics and Jason’s UBI is very likely the same. I think I just have a hard time being exactly sure that some sellers are labeling their figs correctly for sale. I’ve seen old posts on the forums, people asking if it is okay to switch the name of their received fig with a synonym for reasons like easier spelling :( I think the principle of naming not being as important as tastiness is a great one, but not for growers like me who are pretty tight on space.
