Oh good. The tree survived the biggest storm since Katrina so we cut it down. Unfortunate.

I see it exactly the same as Dave S. and Mr. Resin. Somehow it never feels right to me to start a very loving time of year with the murder of a fine old conifer.

if it makes any difference they use the wood to build habitat for humanity homes. so in that sense its really no different than the general lumber industry except that in this case the tree gets one last hurrah as the centerpiece of a holiday show. and the wood goes to the needy.

now here's what gets me --- clear cutting entire woodland areas of native trees (and grinding them into mulch) just to put up a Walmart, or a cookie cutter McMansion development with nary a tree in sight. now that's disgusting. I'm witnessing it right now just down the street.

Sky, they make it all right by naming the streets after trees. ;-)
