RepottingFigs

I have two ten year old potted figs, which I roll in and out of a garage each season. Each tree produces several hundred figs per year. Production went way up when I installed three drip irrigation emitters per pot, which go off three times per day in five minute intervals. The figs are very very root bound. The harvest is about over and the leaves are yellowing and beginning to drop. Can someone provide me advice about repotting and root pruning - and the soil mix once I repot? I have access to composted cow manure, leaf mulch, commercial potting soil, garden loam, along with a bag of slow release organic fertilizer. Is the fall even the right time to repot?

Thanks!
