How Deep Do Daylily Roots Go?

Hi There!

We just made a lasagna bed for my new daylilies. I started with cardboard, then some topsoil/manure mix, compost, and peat moss, and leaves and then mixed it up a bit with a rake.

How far down do daylily roots go? If I have about 8 inches of soil, will that be enough until the cardboard breaks down? I don't want my daylilies to suffer because they can't grow through the cardboard.

Also, I just thought of another question. How rich do daylilies want their soil?

Thanks!
