carol, when the bloom dies, there will be a little round seed pod form, wait until it dries on the vine, but harvest before it pops open or all seed will fall out. You will get a seed pod from each bloom! You will never be without Grandpa Otts again.

Thanks so much gldno1. Its seems the blooms haven't withered & died on the vines so far. They just seem to close up in the eve. & open back up in the am. I will just have to keep my eyes open.

It is a beautiful plant, but . . . . it is very aggressive. Next year you will have thousands of them coming up all over and choking your plants. That was my experience. 5 years later and I am still pulling them out from one year's planting. They're gorgeous, but they don't like to share space with anything else. This has not been my experience with "heavenly blue" or others MGs.

I think they would be most appropriate on an arbor or wall well away from the rest of the garden, where they could be stunning without threatening.

Thanks for the heads up Gotta Garden. Seems I had heard that somewhere before. Maybe it will be more controlled since they are in pots? At least I'm hoping so.

That's funny, I just saw Sierra's photos in the Gallery, and she had some Grandpa Otts, and I had to Google it to see if it was the morning glory she had. Maybe the seeds came from her!

I have tie dyed morning glories and their ancestors of various colors, some solid colored, some not that grace our yard each year. DH helped them along last year, and he will NOT be doing that again unless he wants to do the pulling up of the hundreds of plants that come up like they did this year. LOL
