Bayernfeige Violetta Fig

My Violetta trees have been giving lots of good large figs. The taste was about a 9 for me. VERY Sweet! My daughter loves them!

Jose, how's the variant in breba production ? Did you have the tree in-ground plus how old is tree? Thanks

Paully, breba are very good, and a fair amount. The tree is about 2-3 years old.

I would think at the retail level cloning such a plant might be bad but at the home garden level as long as there not cloned for buisness purposes. Now im no expert on law and could be wrong but i dont think it would be a big deal to give someone a cutting of that plant.

Giuseppe, I planted a Three foot Bayernfeige Violette in the ground last spring. The tree had a few breba on it that I cut off. When the main crop started to appear I started to cut off these figs. The tree grow so vigorously that I quit cutting off the figs. I did get to taste a few of the figs before frost. The figs had a slight sweet taste. To my thinking it was not a great tasting fig. btfig, The nursery's in Washington are just opening up for the spring. Last week Sky Nursery did not have it's list of 2008 trees online. Today it does and lists the Violetta fig. Last Year I had a breba off mine too but it was superexcellent. I can't think of another reason WHY,except that my tree was half buried inground ,pot and all. However the second crop was mediocre tasting ,I think because the tree was too young ,and depleted it's vigor by that time. This year I planted it inground,and it has no breba,but about 20 main crop. I am eager to taste and see the difference.

Guys, my tree is two years old, in a pot. The kid let it dry out and it lost all its leaves in early summer, but it is back and producing ripe figs now. The taste is excellent, and despite almost constant rain this month they have not so far split or soured.

All the brebas fell off when the tree got dried out. They are nice figs, a bit larger than a golf ball. I do not think the color is as pronounced this year as were the few I got last years.

I wish I had a spot to put it in the ground.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Looks like I have to add this to my want list for next season. Just got to weed out one to make room -- likely will be my Osborne Prolific as I have 2. OB is a big tree in cedar barrel. Will give it to my neighbour.
