Hi Jose:I never harvest them so early.
In my opinion they are not ripe yet.
This cultivar color long before being ready for harvest.
It is ripe when the neck shrivels,like a old witch face.
You probably can't keep them that long because the birds will get them before you do.
Think nets.

Looking at those pictures, I can't wait until I get mine from Herman this Fall!

And what does the VS stand for anyways?

It started as Marseilles VS by Jon to indicate from whom
the specimen came from. Jon does that with many figs to
keep track which is which, specially if the fig has a
familiar used name but looks different. In this case it
was different from the normally white Marseilles.
VS stands for Herman's initials. Since then, Jon and
Herman ID'd it as Black Marseilles and the VS part stuck.

To further illustrate my above post, if somebody else
discovers 'another' Black Marseilles from a different
source, and donate a twig to Jon, most likely it will
tacked as Black Marseilles XY, where XY will stand for
that person's initials.

Herman, you are right, they tasted a bit under ripe but one fell off by itself and in recovering it, I picked the other one.

Hi Jose:You Know sometimes young figs put on more figs than they can feed.
In that case we have to brake some younger one down,to equilibrate the tree.
Even now is not late.
If it has a lot of figs and the frost date is coming ,soon,then it makes sense to eradicate half of the crop now,to hurry the rest,of them to ripe and be of high quality.
