Ahhhh yes, I can relate to this post. I often go outside with my camera and take pictures with every intention of posting them here. And then I come inside and view them...sigh.

There is always too much sun. The blooms that looks so lovely to my eye are faded out in the pics, almost unnoticeable. I see lovely well shaped blooms but it turns out that they are always surrounded by leaves that look ragged from the grasshoppers feasting on them. I take long shots to show my progress and no matter what angle I shoot from the background of the farm is all that shows up with pickups, dump trucks, tractors, equipment and many, many very tall weeds in every view. But it matters not, I suppose. I still love to garden. Inside the boudries of my yard I can envision that one day the weeds will be grass and the bare spots will be beautiful flower beds and the dirt paths will be brick walkways. I keep working...and dreaming...and slowly I will have my own version of paradise. Maybe when I get there...my camera will work better ;)

My most frustrating is trying to show reds. I get this irridescent blob for flowers. I just love reds, but when I try to do photos to show the subtle differences in red roses it just doesn't work.

debbieca, I have a black standard poodle, and he looks like a big black blob in pictures, even though he actually has a lot of variation in his hair. Anyway, a photographer friend told me to make sure the background is dark but contrasting; red is best for him. Maybe a black back drop would help. It would probably look very dramatic, too.

'mornin' all. I sell on eBrat and need a photo for EVERYTHING. Way back in the day I started out taking actual pictures on actual film and sending them to my sister 800 miles away who did not sell - but had a scanner. I would do the auction and with my password she would open it and revise adding the photo. WOW! What a complicated system, but ya gotta start somewhere.

Then I got a scanner which does my flat things like books, magazines, fabric - and scans photos of larger items. Quite a step up!

About 5 or 6 months ago my Dad got me a digital camera as a gift. Wow again! What a difference. So easy, so quick. I did immediately take it back and get a bit better one right away to be sure it would really serve my needs.

Oh, I forgot where I was going with all this. ;) Oh, yeah. Our Wally World has a huge table of dollar a yard fabrics. I'd often see them and think "eww! what would anyone do with these?" But then I was thinking about making living room drapes for my FOUR GIGANTIC PICTURE WINDOWS EACH A DIFFERENT SIZE (previous owner/builder should have had his head examined) and I went there to look at the fabric. There was actually some rather nice stuff there if I kept my mind off of quilting. ;)) I 'got over' the drape episode thank goodness, but bought 2 yards each of 5 or 6 fabrics that I thought would be good backdrops for photography. They have worked out beautifully. I picked knits that didn't wrinkle when I scrunched them, not too thin, not too thick.

That's helped a lot with my indoor photography but the outdoor is still chancy. Sometimes ya just can't edit out the ugly. Sigh. Sometimes I can't even PhotoDeluxe it out. Double-sigh.

It's not garden related but...

A few years back I was floating the North Platte River near Saratoga, Wyoming with my dad. He was fishing and I was eagle watching. There are several bald eagle families that call this particular stretch home.

We had one take flight and head to the sky just above us. It was a perfect shot...he was all stretched out and tipped just a bit so I could see both wings and his tail in all their glory...

Well, since he was flying and we were floating, focus was the issue. Too many variables. I shot just in case but when the film came back, the composition was perfect but Mr. Eagle was out of focus. I could have cried. It would have been a National Geographic shot...up against a bright blue sky...oh well. Gives me a reason to go back, right?
