My two-year old, nine foot Danny's Delight produced several breba this year, but they were yellow/green in color. I believe Jon of Encanto Farms had a similar experience. So, if this holds true, and it is a dark fig you want, then DD is not the fig for you.....Elder (Lou)

I prune to heavily to have much chance of seeing Brebas.
My Danny's is about 8' tall now, and loaded with figs, but they are not ripe yet.
Dark Portugese had its' first ripe fig today, but haven't prepped the pix yet.
Dark Sulyane is a Paradise Nursey Fig, and I just bought mine this year, so won't see fruit till next year, though I think there might be one on it this year, if I remember correctly.

Dark Portugal sounds mysterious and interesting.

Dark Sultane, according to Paradise, sounds good but not heavily tested.

Jon, is the Dark Portugese your talking about, is from me? I've had my crop already, it's seems early color is more like burgundy, it has a lovely flavor. The figs are small to medium size, maybe that's way it ripens early. I've been noticing smaller figss don't take a long time to ripen. I'm not sure if others agree with me.

Yes, it is from you. Still looks promising, but only one ripened so far, and probably picked it a day or maybe two early.

Leon, it isn't. I just named it that. I got it from a portugese family, who originally got it from portugal. It seems very productive in Bethlehem, pennsylvania. My tree is in a 10 gallon container, have produced a good crop for me this year already.

Sultane is a French grown fig variety, probably originating from North Africa, producing a lot of brebas and a lot of fig for main crop.

I had one which was so infected with Mosaic that I decided to discard it. Small leaves, trunk distorted, etc...

From what I know: Sultane is hardy to z7. Breba crop fig are sweet but not excellent, pyriform, with a thick skin.

As for the main crop, it rippens only during a very long long time in very long long summer regions. A lot of heat is required. The taste is said to be superior than the brebas (excellent according to some, very rich according to others)...
