Hollyhock question

I planted last year, and even with my "lacey" leaves, they bloomed this year (and they ARE gorgeous).

Anyway, if I leave them alone, and they reseed where they are at, will it again take 2 years to bloom?

I am clueless on HH, never had them before.

DH came up with the idea of alternating years of seeds, so one set blooms every year if that is the case-would that work??
