Comments (50)"I do have a small plant of UCD Brn Trk,and one Small Bayernfeige From Gene. This is identical To Bayernfeige,in shape of leaf and fruit." Herman... 8/6/07 Are you saying that (you believe) UCD Brn Tky is V. Bayernfeige? When did you get the UCD BT? ....I've got a fig that I received from a friend of my wife. It was in her yard when she moved in (years ago) and it had produced (unprotected) for years (previous owners were the stereotypical little old Italian family who still, presumably after decades in this country, spoke with thick Italian accents). This year it has produced a single (still small and green) fig and I'm hoping to post a pic when (if) it ever ripens. I have a couple of shots here that I'll post, but I understand that id'ing figs is difficult ~Chills...See Morefig fetishists in ontario (article about adriano)
Comments (2)Adriano Instruction, for growing fig trees,in the cold climates, should be followed like a Bible, for growing such a fruit. However I would like to add to it,and contradict ,the sentence saying that fig fruits do not get ripe after leaf Fall. At least one cultivar,i observed that does ripe fruits after leaf fall, and first frost,if: The fruits are in the stagnant stage when the frost Happen. I have had ripe fruit of excellent taste, from my Marseilles vs black, very late in November,on leafless trees. Only the half grown figs did not ripe, but the ones in stagnant stage did just fine. Conclusion. Those half grown should have been removed. Also I would point that there sould be more varieties behaving like this, but they are to young to do so in my backyard. Also this episod Happen in 2007,Sommer,when after the initial frost,on 29 of Octomber, the weather turned nice and dry till December. H2...See MoreGreen Giant Arborvitae in Ontario, Canada?
Comments (12)I am late to respond, but I just stumbled on some Green Giants at the nursery at Canadian Tire, of all places, in Midland, ON ... this suggests to me that they are more widely available now. (I have been trying to find them for a number of years and this is the first time I have actually seen them.)...See MoreAnother excellent independent retail nursery closing (Ontario Canada)
Comments (13)Rouge21_gw, thank you for posting. I am in Toronto, and I also visit Humber multiple times a year. In fact, I was there just this week. I didn't know that they were closing. I could always count on Humber having varieties that no one else did. Even though they weren't an inexpensive place to shop, they did carry different sizes of some plants, so I could opt for a small size if I didn't want to spring for an expensive gallon pot. For others in the Toronto area, here are a couple of other independent nurseries you might want to try : Valleyview. They closed their Scarborough location a year or two ago, but they have a large location in east Markham, just off Highway 7 near the Pickering town line. They don't have the variety of perennials that Humber does, though. Tree Valley. It's on Stouffville side road. I've bought basic daylilies there for a very good price. I do like and shop at Sheridan Nurseries, but I get sticker shock at some of their prices. They seem even higher this year.....See MoreMEL7300
