Cardinal Desire, ruffles and rebloom on Saturday

I was really excited to see the ffo today on one of my new late bloomers, CARDINAL DESIRE, by northern hybridizer Mike Grossman.

CARDINAL DESIRE is a red late bloomer with white teeth. I only have a single fan now, but I can imagine how gorgeous this will be in a clump. Mike's is cardinal red, but mine is more of a rosy red.

ICE CREAM EMPEROR is reblooming. Three scoops please!

I REMEMBER YOU has been one of my best budded, best branched, best reblooming cultivars in the past. But this year is has short scapes and very few buds. No sign of rebloom either.

FLAMINGO PARADE - Julia asked about recuring on my previous photo. Well here it is with recurved petals and sepals today.

ENGLISH LAVENDER - Here's the last bloom on this one. It just went in the ground in early June.

INIMITABLE

TEXAS BLUE EYES had its bluest eyes all season this morning.

In the blue and white bed: JITTERBUG BLUES and WINTER TREASURE

ORCHID ELEGANCE is one of my best heat busters. It still looks beautiful at the end of every 94-degree day.

Carlos, I am amazed at how many iris you have growing on a city lot. It must be a very large lot. You have many on those lists to add to your Schreiner's collection. I also see that you have a large number of Walter Moores iris. I am also a collection of Moores iris and also have a good collection of the older Schreiner's iris. I plan in the near future to get all my Schreiner's and Moores' iris into their own areas. Now they are growing in various iris areas. I have a collection of the Dykes Metal winners. At least I have something growing under all the names. I am not sure anyone knows the true ID of some of the older Dykes winners. I have several different older Dykes iris growing under the same name. I have 20 acres of which 14 could be used to grow iris if I need the space. I have several iris areas that may cover about 2 acres all together. I have several mass planting of older iris(Quaker Lady, New Snow, Wabash, Shah Jehan, Cardinal, Indian Chief). Haves: I'm waaaay behind the digging curve here, BUT will take a look at some of the want lists and see what I can bring. Unfortunately Bubblegum Delicious got crown rot this fall, and three of four fans died. I doubt that it will be alive in the spring. I did get a couple of seeds out of its pollen when crossed with Pink Lemonade Party that I'll plant next year. Debra

There sure are many lovely daylilies under letter C. Claudine's Charm and Clown Parade look fabulous in many gardens. I love the scape photo of Crazy Miss Daisy, and the clump shot of that one. Circus Performer and Cherry Ice Cream Smile always catch my eye. Here are some of my C's: Cardinal Desire is a nice red in the late season. Coastal Grand was one of my best budded cultivars but often had trouble opening. Cary Grant was wonderfully sunfast last season. Chilled Orange Sorbet is a very slow multiplier here. Sarah - Thanks! Ice Cream Emperor has been one of my favorites for the past two years. Flamingo Parade is new, and I love its vibrant color.

Oh I love Ice Cream Emperor. So pretty. And CHEROKEE STAR. Gosh it just glows with that vibrant deep red. CARDINAL DESIRE is a preet one but not my favorite. Today my favorite is FLAMINGO PARADE. Just stunning!

They are all exquisite. Winter Treasure and Cherokee Star look especially lovely to me, but gee, every one of them is gorgeous.

I love them all too and they are all " special" so that makes the all favorites. Englis Lavender is doing well since you just got it. Mine like to sulk a bit when I first plant them...Lovely....Ellie

wow, what some beauties today. Love CARDINAL DESIRE. so pretty and I always love thet ICE CREAM EMPEROR. its a beauty. I REMEMBER YOU is gorgeous, i love that one. FLAMINGO PARADE is gorgeous, too.and I really like the dark colors of RUBIES FOR CONGO and CHERAKEE STAR.both of them are just gorgeous.

Rita - Flamingo Parade barely made it through the winter in a pot, and it decreased from two to one fan. I want to get it in the ground as soon as possible so next year and can have lots of those pretty blooms.

Cindy - Judging from your favorites, I would say you're a lavender fan, even though I don't recall you posting many photos of lavender daylilies.

Just package them up and send FLAMINGO PARADE and ENGLISH LAVENDER to live here LOL. I like the recurving on FP and something about EL just soothes the senses.
How well do these open on cool mornings, ie low 60's?

Ice Cream Emperor is making me drool. I don't even want to look up the hybridizer, because with my luck it will be one I won't be able to grow. I'm a glutton for punishment, so I'll look it up anyway.

All of the lavenders, orchids and whites are my favorites. I like your idea of a blue and white bed.

Julia - English Lavender is a good cool morning opener, but Flamingo Parade doesn't care much for morning temps in the low 60s. It will open eventually, but it has taken until afternoon here.

Chris - Trimmer is the hybridizer on Ice Cream Emperor, and I know you avoid his recent intros. I like my idea of a blue and white bed too. But I'm expanding and revamping it for next year. I have too many whites too close together, and not enough blues starting when the early whites do. So I'm adding some early blue eyes and some ML and late bloomers.

My Flamingo Parade is more of a coral color. First year for Ice Cream Emperor here; so far, flowers haven't been very good--poor opening and on the small side--but too soon to tell.

These are all lovely (as usual) but each time you share photos of Texas Blue Eyes and Rubies for Congo I fall more in love with them. Just when I thought it wasn't possible for them to get prettier, they do. Where on earth can I find me a 'Rubies for Congo'? I'm so sad it's the last bloom...I'm hoping you get rebloom on it. (I'm pretty sure Maryott still has TBE). The Cardinal Desire one is very striking too!

Celeste - Rubies for Congo used to be on the Lily Auction quite frequently. I'm thinking I bought mine from Blueridge. I know Abundant Daylilies and Goldcoast also sold it.

Mantis - I take my photos in soft morning light or bright shade early in the mornings. I agree with you that Flamingo Parade is coral. It shows more of its orange tones in bright sunlight. Here's a photo of it taken a midday.

About Ice Cream Emperor, I discovered for myself how poorly in opened after cool night temperatures a couple of weeks ago. I am just now getting great flowers on the rebloom scapes. I hope it shapes up for you. It is a beauty!

As alwways, you have a lot to look at and enjoy. Beautiful photos. I really like Jitterbug blues, Texas Blue eyes, English Lavender, but I /remember You is a gorgeous bloom, and Ice Cream Emporer. Toom many beautiful Ones to choose just one.

All are beautiful!! If I really had to pick only one it would be the first one, Cardinal Desire, very pretty, and late! So sad about I Remember You, maybe next year it'll be the best again, it sure is pretty.
