What a beautiful group of daylilies. My favorites are Victorian Lace (always love that one) and that pale pink noid.

We struggle with our outdoor cats helping themselves to the wildlife but, like you, we just can't de-claw them. The last time one caught a bird, I chased the cat away and went to pick up the bird. As soon as I touched him, he flew away. Guess we got lucky with that one.

I am going through the same pains as your are with my cat Lily. (Fat Cat Nemo is too well-fed and lazy to hunt and Zeus is an inside cat). She is really old but apparently still a sharp huntress and not a day goes by that she doesn't bring home a 'gift'. I don't mind that she controls the population of moles and rodents but I want to strangle her when she only injures them but doesn't finish them off. Just yesterday she left a gravely injured baby chipmunk on my doorstep and just sat a couple feet away from it, watching it struggle and convulse. I really think sometimes she is evil...! The poor baby was suffering and I don't have the guts to put it out of it's misery so luckily DH (who is a hunter, btw) did it for me. I would never de-claw my cats...I saw a video of how it's done and it's barbaric...they take off some of the cat's toe along with the claw. Not to mention they need them for defense if they go outside. So there's not much that can be done. I have chased after my cats and tackled them when I saw a victim in their mouths and sometimes they would drop the bird or chipmunk and it would get away safely. My husband, the hunter, tells me I'm interfering with nature and to just let nature take it's course but I can't stand by and do nothing.

Anyway, I feel for you about the bird. I hope it didn't suffer long. I love your pale pink NOID and George Jets On and American Freedom are looking fine and making me eager for mine.

Another little bit of info...they can still catch and kill birds even if they are declawed, so don't worry that you would necessarily have avoided it.

Nate, could your pink noid be Icy? it surely does resemble it.

Your clump of Chance encounter is great, and I always love Intelligent Life, but Tower of Babel is my choice today.

I too like the NOID best. Is it a smaller flower? How tall is the scape? Is it early midseason for you? How can you have so many flowers and be zone 4?

Great blooms my favorite is the pink NOID. So sorry about the bird my cat Caramel is a great hunter too I hate it when he gets something especially squirrels, birds, baby rabbits and oh well just about every other living creature, before he came to live with us he and Little Boy were strays and had to hunt to survive so I guess it's a instinct that's hard to give up even though they both have plenty of cat food.

Pink NOID is 30" tall (I guess it can't be Icy), flowers are 5" approx (I don't know how to measure). I'd call it EM, yes.
According to all maps it is zone 4, but the winter was very mild and it was warm in Feb and March.

I know that declawed cats can catch birds too :( But it's a lucky break for them.
Celeste, exactly! They don't quite kill them (as if that would be easier for me to see) and then those poor injured things.. ah, I don't know. The bird btw disappeared after awhile. I don't know what happened. Cats were "grounded" for the rest of the day.
Yes, it's nature and they are hunters and we can't deny outside for them, it's a whole big interesting world, no roof, and so on and so on. I just hope birds are more careful!

Intelligent Design is my favorite again today. But I also loved your photos of American Freedom, Soul on Fire and pink NOID.
