It's botanical name is Acca Sellowiana, but it also lists the common name which is Pineapple Guava. I've never ordered a guava from WP's before so don't know how tall it'll be. Also, when I ordered Pineapple and Strawberry guava's before, it was either from Jung's, Henry's or Gurney's.Do you get catalogs from any of these nurseries? They also have online sites. They were decent sizes and compact. Patty, I planted the Poncirus (flying dragon) in the ground last summer, '04 and it overwintered fine..didn't even brown. I used mulch about halfway up, but it's slow-growing..Well, actually, I moved it this summer because it wasn't getting enough sun in that spot, since I've moved it, it's put on new growth. I think WP's charges 5.00 for the Poncirus now..not sure, I'd have to check the site. Like I said, it was approximately 1' tall and at the time, 4.00. I also planted a basjoo banana last summer, and another this yr. One was bought at a place GW doesn't allow to name, the recent at WP's. I also bought 2 palms which I planted this summer..don't know if they'll make it, but two guys on Palm Forum, (Chicago and Ontario) has successfully grown palms in their yards. Well, I got two of the hybrid seedlings from Rolling River. I would not have purchased them if I had seem them that is for sure. There are really spindly/thin and don't see how this (what looks like a cutting) will become a bush. They are alive and growing though. Summer Winds had unnamed varieties for 9$ in much better shape. I bought two there and then saw a Coolidge at Home Depot for 18$. Picked that up and a month later see Naemetz (sp?) at HD for 20$ and pick that up. I move my spindly Rolling River ones out to some place in the yard and replace with the HD varieties. I also so Naemetz at Lowe's quite large trained as a tree for 35$ I think.

Okay great, thanks Gardengal48. Since the original poster and the other individual haven’t responded with a positive response to your recommendation I will assume your advice did not work. My yard is similar to the HU-868171717) person with hundreds growing and many deeply rooted at this point despite constant mowing. Can you elaborate on how frequent to mow or how low the mower should be set? I have a Torro push mower with settings we will say are 1-5 and the lowest I’ve ever gone is 3. I have zoysia grass and even at level three it’s difficult to mow that low. If I went to a 1 I would basically got to the dirt and assume kill the grass as well. So a professional recommended weed and feed and spot kill with roundup if that didn’t work. This lady (in her late 50’s early 60’s) seemed to be quite experienced and said she went to college for horticulture. Would you elaborate on how mowing would be effective or how often at what level? Otherwise I will post my results using the chemicals you deem harmful once the issue is contained. Thanks!

We have two strawberry guavas at our home in Santa Barbara. I don't do anything with mine, and have gotten a large crop every year. I think they are four years old. I remember we got fruit the first year. I suspect the cold is the issue. If we have a warm spring, the plant produces flowers too early. If we then have a cold patch, the flowers die off.
