broccoli... keep the old, or start anew?

so, what's the collective wisdom on broccoli plants: i have several nice large healthy plants. they've provided me with a first crop, and are now producing fairly well from the sides. we have, what, at least four months left of broccoli... i have TONS of broccoli seedlings, from 2-4 inches tall.

what's the best way to maximize my yield? should i leave the established plants in the ground and harvest the side shoots all spring, or should i rip them out and replace them? i have another short row of broc going that looks like it's getting ready to produce heads, so i have some harvests coming up... so i could rip out the big ones, eat off the short row, and wait until the new seedlings produce...

what say ye?
