Buck roses: Prairie Sunrise, Prairie Sunset, Sunbonnet Sue, etc.
Comments (20)Thank you all for sharing your experiences with Buck roses and enticing me to other varieties. You, evil rose people, you! I am very pleased to hear about PS. As I mentioned, it was an impulse buy and never thought about it or never paid any attention to it. I was so fascinated with the large 4 inch bloom with intoxicatingly sweet fragrance. The bush was in a 2 gallon container and about 1 ft tall. When I go back to the nursery and see the roses, I have a better idea about how they are. My garden contains some Buck roses also - Carefree Beauty, Earth Song, Aunt Honey, and Blue Skies. All the roses are indeed carefree except BS. BS had very strong citrus fragrance and acted like HT, but he decided to not grow....See MoreSunrise Sunset vs animal tragedy
Comments (13)I used blood meal & bone meal for years, until the neighbors labrador retriever dug up my newly planted perennials. I called the neighbor and she said well...........that's what happened! You used blood meal and bone meal! I told her "I" didn't have a dog! There is a leash law and I would appreciate if her dog were not running loose. :0( Found one of that neighbors chickens in my yard a couple of weeks ago; I called her and she said she didn't want it back. She's a bad pet owner! It's not the pets fault it's in your yard digging up plants....See MoreSunset
Comments (9)Thanks for looking, guys. There's five or six shots of this in my camera, I just kept shooting as it got darker - really too late in the day for a good sunset pic, but the lightning would've made a striking photo. I'm not a photographer, so Denise and Ricky, your comments are helpful. I see something cool, pick up to camera and press the button. If I start playing around with the editing feature, which is so lame, I feel like it's a waste of time and I wanted to just get it posted. I got some shots with too much of the background scenery (which includes the property across the street from me - and the 4-Sale sign showing its 1.7 million price!) Yes, Felix - I know just exactly what you mean. It's not corny. It's corn-doggy. Susie...See Morenew easy elegance flopping
Comments (11)Funny I always see the pets before the plants, Beautiful kitty was my first thought as well. All the easy elegance you mentioned will be upright after this year except SS. Don't know your zone but many of my EE's do die to the ground in winter here depending on how harsh the winter is. They bounce back nicely for the next year thou. I'm trying an experiment with a new Sunrise Sunset. Since all of my original SS's always kept their canes off the ground. I was wondering if the difference could be fertilizer. My soil is much improved over what it once was and can't change that. But it is not going to receive any extras. No seaweed sprays, alfalfa meal, cotton seed meal, leaves, nitrogen ect ect ect. To see if she may grow more upright than they do now. Even before the extra care they were always covered in bloom. I believe perhaps more than they are now. Since we have had nearly zero sun this season the truer test will be next year....See Moremary_lu_gw
