Hi btropical, I'm psyched that I saw your post. I would love to trade cuttings. I'm new at figs and even newer at cuttings. I have about ten cuttings in the fridge (plastic bag method) that I am waiting to start in a rooting mixture. They come from my one in-ground fig that is now dormant and covered for the RI winter. Unfortunately, I do not know the variety. It's a black fig...very sweet fruit. I had it in a pot for a few years, but I wasn't able to provide the necessary care through the summer months, since we'd often leave for a week at a time...my watering person was never too consisten. The plant has done well during its first two years in the ground. If you'd like to take a chance on an unknown variety, I'd be up for mailing some cuttings to you. Geoff

Thanks, Leon. Is the Verte the same as Green Ischia? I found some sources saying they were, and some saying they weren't. Where can I find info about that particular variety(cold hardiness, number of crops, anything I should do for it in zone 7b, etc)? Also, I found one picture that showed the fig split, does the skin split when it is fully ripe? Is it actually supposed to have a strawberry flavor, or is it just called that because of the interior color? Thanks!

Figman, If your trees are in the ground,is your soil fertile? If not, use the 24-8-16 Miracle-gro once a week.If you want to go organic,mix in matter of your choice. Also never use leaves for winterizing,as they could invite mold and mildew. My entire collection came from Belleclare nursery. They grew and raised thousands of fig trees. They were one of the best fig experts in this country. There ways are the most proven. You can never go wrong with their methods.There methods along the years have now become mine. They had been on the Martha Stewart show,and many newspaper and magazine articles. Every fig tree in my orchard are just about on auto pilot. Oh, don't forget about the lime, figs love it. John, they should call you the fig whisperer.. I touched two of the figs on this plant and they came off in my hand.. I guess the small amount of mold is from the open eye and after a 1hr down pour. This is what they looked like (decent sweetness like a grape):
