I planted three last year. One has diminished in size and the other two have held their own, but they have not multiplied at all. To be fair, these plants are down a path in our woodland garden and so they weren't coddled at all last year. Just a quick watering every few days when I thought about it.(And you know here in Alabama, we have heat, humidity, and drought-like conditions at times.) :) To me, the beauty of this plant is the foilage. They remind me somewhat of coralbelles. The flower wasn't a standout for me.

Ive been growing my T. 'Spring Symphony' for about five years now. I love it. Tiarella are a cousin of the coral-bell, and quite easy to grow. Mine are in part shade (tho they can handle full shade) in well draining soil. Some Tiarella are more mounding, while others will form a low, spreading carpet. Not at all invasive. It also gives off good rebloom if deadheaded. I give my Tiarella a bit of compost in the spring, but thats it.

Remember the 3-year rule for perennials: "sleep, creep, leap"; it may take a few years for the tiarella, or any perennial, to really show its potential.

I have a few tiarella 'Pink Skyrocket' and have been very pleased with them. The bloom lasts a good month; not invasive. Just bought another this year.

As woodland plants, they enjoy a somewhat moist soil, rich in organic matter, slightly on the acid side. Mine get full sun in the early morning, then dappled shade the rest of the day, and they did remarkably well in my well-drained sandy soil. I'll admit I, too, was somewhat careless about watering. Even drought-tolerant plants usually do best with ample water until they are established.

There is so much variation in the tiarellas ... if that 'Candy Striper' is the one that suits your fancy, go for it!
