Ngraham - I got some of that rain too, but not quite as much as you. Most of my blooms today were decimated. There was so much lightning and wind. Several branches on my butterfly bushes are broken. I can't believe you got a pond out it! Janice Brown really stood up that storm. She looks very pretty this morning.

Oh my goodness! It really looks like you have a lake in your backyard. What a weird weather pattern we are in. We want rain, but not that much!

I'm voting for Persian Ruby as my favorite. I am such a chicken about storms, but some are headed are way and we need the rain. Now all you need is a willow tree and a boat and Viola! Instant romantic pond area.

Your yard is big indeed, our back yard is small and we have a pond in it (which we call 'lake') very often after big storms, and it doesn't look as nice as your picture ;)

I just love all the room you have and think your backyard is so lovely. That really would be a fine spot for a real pond, you sure you have enough room for it. Maybe all this rain you have gotten will inspire rebloom. Classic Caper is my favorite of the blooms today.

Persian Ruby is really a great daylily, nice big velvety blooms. Really impressive how well it withstood the storm. I didn't realize Janice Brown has so much substance, lots of my daylilies are soggy shredded mess. Classic Caper may be one of those daylilies people call muddy, it is as close as any I have to that, but I am fond of it. It is never splotchy, opens nicely, big flower, & plenty of blooms.
I think I would like a pond back there Rita. Our neighbor dug a pond in his backyard about 10 years ago though. Apparently one has to dig deep to get below the topsoil so it will hold water. He has a deep pond, but never got it that deep. It wouldn't hold water, he finally put in a liner, but we're talking something of the size of what is in my backyard now. That is one big liner, I don't know where he got it. This had gone down a lot now, about 1/4 the size it was this morning. Normally it would have been completely gone within a couple of hours. Crackingtheconcrete-see that tree in the middle of the water? That is a curly willow :) All I need is the rowboat I guess. We did have some ducks drop in once after a storm, I wish I had taken pictures of that.
I wish I could get some of this rain to those who need it. I know I could be in a drought, & yes, that would be hard too. I certainly don't have it as bad as some people who live here. I'm on a small hill & don't have water in my living room like some. Even that is better than having it up to the roof like other areas of the country. Crazy weather this year, but it seems like I say that every year :)

JANIS BROWN is gorgeous.Sure wish we get some of that rain here.Storms kept coming down through the state but just before they got here, they took a fast turn and went around us,and not a drop here yet.Dont want no bad storms, just some rain.We are in a bad drought too.

Your yard is a beautiful park. All that room. So beautiful. My dog would adore it too. It makes me sigh. By the way I love thunder storms, used to live in Louisiana, and I miss the storms a lot.

Christine, I like thunderstorms too :) the afternoon kind you get in the summer. I often sit on the front porch & watch. I couldn't have watched this one outside though, even if it hadn't been in the early hours of the morning. The hail was pounding our front door, unusual direction for the storm to come.

JANICE BROWN looks perfect and beautiful, not like she just weathered a storm. Your temporary pond looks lovely. Wish I had that kind of room! You are very lucky to live in such a pretty place.

Too bad it would be too much of a project to put in that pond. It really would look stunning. I know there is some sort of natural cray that one can buy and tamp down to make the bottom and sides to hold water for a natural pond after the hole is dug but now I can't remember what it is called.

Thanks Casey, we do love it here. We have seriously considered putting a pond there, I think it would be lovely & would give DH that much less to mow :) Maybe one of these days.

We actually got some of that storm too! I think the wind gust were around 60 mph. Scary. One of my trellises is on the ground and lots of dead branches and green leaves, etc. Nice back yard and I pic Janice!!! LOL!!
