Be happy to share the names of the grasses I have in my garden. I love grasses and think everyone should enjoy them.

This grass is called 'Central Park'. I'm surprised I don't have a picture of it with its plumes because they are beautiful. I'll have to make sure to take some this year. It's 4 years old this month and has never been divided. I cut all my grasses back in Feb or March to as low as I can get them. I have 2 of these.

This is 'Madien Hair Grass'. I really like how it has a fountain like drape to it. The plumes on this one are also wonderful. It is crowding a small 'Red Hot Poker' plant to the right of it which I will have to move after it blooms next month. The 2 little patches of what look like a varigated grass just behind the coleus is not a grass but 'Society Garlic'. This grass is also 4 years old this month. I have 3 of these.

The lighter grass in this picture is called 'Morning Light'. Its between the sedum and my other Central Park. I have one on either side of the Central Park, however, the one on the right (you can barely see it) isn't doing very well this year, sigh. I've had this grass for 3 years and it has never sent up plumes. I read that they need a prolonged period of very hot weather to bloom. Sure thought my weather qualified for that but guess not.

And finally, a picture of my 'Dwarf Fountain Grass'. I was told when I bought this that it was marginally hardy in my area but this is the 3rd year I've had it and its doing very well. I've been very happy that it is truly a dwarf and has maintaned a nice small size. This picture is from 2005.

I also have varigated 'Sweet Flag' and golden variegated 'Hakone' but don't have any decent pictures of them. Check out the link below for some good information about grasses. Hope this has helped you to decide which grasses to incorporate into your garden. Vikki

Oops Faye, just re-read your post and see that you said you have Maiden Hair Grass. Sorry I bored you with my Maiden Hair Grass lesson, lol. Is yours just like mine? Until this spring I had 4 Maiden Hair Grasses in my grass bed but (like you mentioned) they were getting so big that I dug out 2 of them and gave them to a neighbor. They divide very well and my neighbor was able to get 4 nice size clumps out of each one I gave her. I would like more color in my grass bed also and the Morning Light has made a big difference in that bed. Take a look at the Pennisetum setaceum 'Rubrum' in the link below. Its beautiful. I think I'll try and get at least one of those next year. Vikki
